Hehehe, do I dare say it? I've been on the list for one since late '06 (in anticipation of Ford being on a nostalgia roll). In fact, I'm the first one on the list at my Ford dealer where I bought my Mystichrome. (And no, I'm not trading in the Mystichrome for it.) I guess you could call me a sucker for special editions! Honestly, I wasn't too happy with the '07 GT500 when it came out, but I have a gut feeling that the '08 GT500KR will have several improvements that will make up for its inadequacies. And if it's a total sham, I'll wait for the Boss when it comes out (guessing in '09, another 40th anniversary of the original, lol).
Only 1,000 units ... Back in '04 when I bought my Mystichrome, back in '04 when certain Ford dealers were SVT dealers as well, every SVT dealer was allocated at least 1 Mystichrome Cobra. And if the dealer's SVT sales were high volume or whatever, they then got 2 Mystichrome Cobras. The dealer where I bought mine, Villa Ford of Orange, California, got 2 = 1 coupe and 1 convertible. I bought the vert, of course. And there was a total production of 1,010 Mystichrome Cobras made.
But in '08, I'm not sure how they're gonna allocate these GT500KR's to the dealers. Maybe strictly to dealers with excellent sales/high volume?

Damn that is a nice ride. Going to cost some crazy cash to get one if they only make 1000. Talk about a car you would want to keep a garage queen though :)

F**K 'em.
Buy a GT - buy some parts and create your own "special edition."
1000 units is sticking it up the azz of the majority of loyal Mustang owners.
Sorry. I'm getting weary of all these Shelby, and others, special editions that most of us can't afford.
My 2c.
Here's my "edition" for $36k.
The Rufstang (2007 Ford Mustang GT)
Show *Painted mirrors, window trim, and GT fender emblem removal by Classic Auto Body - Washington NC – 252.946.4693 * Billet grilles by Cervini Auto Designs * Rear spoiler by Classic Design Concepts * Engine compartment dress-up by Ford Racing & Roush * Sylvania Silverstar headlights/Stealth marker light bulbs * ¼ Window louvers by www.silverhorseracing.com * Window tint by Professional Window Tinting/Greenville NC * Shine by Zaino (www.zainostore.com) * body striping by Hudson Signs/Washington NC * Hydraulic hood props by Redlinetuning.com * Sequential rear signals by Webelectrics.com
Go * Stage III Comp cams/springs * SCT dyno-tune by Fastlane Motorsports/Benson NC (Caleb is the Tuner!) * Ford racing: headers & 4:10 gears * Eibach Sportline Springs * Hawk ceramic brakes * Steeda pulleys and adjustable UCA * Kazera 18’s – 8.5 f / 9.5 r * BFG KDW’s – 245’s and 285’s * BBK Throttle body * C&L CAI * Hurst short throw shifter * Bassani SS Race exhaust.
How in the world can Ford make something so beautiful and so much in demand, but be in the financial situation they are in now? Someone up there needs to get their head out of their ass and give us more stuff like this.

+1. You can almost take the bets now. They will be asking 100K+ for this one. In order to own a KR edition you will have to be King. I do like the design, but I know I will never own one. The proposed HP is nice 540HP from factory is nice. Beautiful Car, but it will be overpriced!

The GT500 KR wasn't at the auction. It was the new release of the Shelby GT-H convertible. It was serial number 001, all other 499 are being sent to Hertz. If I remember right, it went for $250,000.

That is correct. I watched it on Speedvision. As part of the deal, they had a matching Fender electric guitar and case to go with the car, painted black with gold stripes to match, and it even said "Shelby GT-H" on it as well. Pretty crazy!

You said it! I was willing to pay list but not those crazy markups the dealers were getting on the GT500. So far I've been working on the "show" and having to wait on some more dough before the "go".

Are you serious? If so I hate you, very very very much.

If I like what I see and read about the car at its impending debut at this year's NY Auto Show, and if I feel the same way about this car as how I felt about the Mystichrome Cobra when it debuted at the '03 NY Auto Show, then I may be adding this car to my list in my siggy. But we'll see. I only buy something if I REALLY REALLY REALLY like it and have a great gut feeling about it. Like how I felt about my Mystichrome. And that's also how I felt about buying my Tbird too. If the '08 GT500KR truly IS what the '07 GT500 should have been in the first place, and if several improvements have been made/addressed, then I may strongly consider buying it.
But I must say one thing right now. What is it with all S197 headrests, including the GT500?!? Why are they canted at an angle too far forward? It's so uncomfortable, I wish they were adjustable like my Mystichrome. Then for sure, I wouldn't have any complaints about the S197's overall driving comfort.

I'll cut you a deal. You buy it if you don't like it send it to me and I guess I'll take it.

LOL Now if that isn't an act of self-sacrifice by taking someone else's unwanted, brand new car, I don't know what is!
