Default buying a 93

The car should be getting to my dealership in the next couple of hours. 93 GT, 5 sp, 86k, only has a flowmaster cat-back. Appears to have been garaged. Trading in my Grand Prix and giving them $1,500.
I'd like to try keeping it stock appearing...maybe porting the stock heads with some bigger valves, step up the cam, gears, maybe some shorties and mid pipe. Do these cars respond better to some mods in particular? I had an 02 GT for a couple of years and from what I've seen the 4.6 and the 5.0 react completely different to mods.

I'll get some pics up in the next day or so.
