So I bought a new house and had to move last weekend but didn't have any help. My friend said that he would help if I let him take my car to the beach since it's spring break. I said ok and we spent Sat. moving. Sat. night he went to Gulf Shores to play around. Well, he run up on this SS Camaro that had "Todays Special, one roasted mustang" wrote on the back glass. So he gets beside him on the main strip at the beach and they both take off from a roll in first gear. As soon as he hits second blue lights come from all directions. He got nailed with a 600 dollar "racing on highway" ticket. I just wanted to post this so people that didn't know about a "racing on highway" ticket would know that they do exist and cost a lot. I have raced on the highway but never on a busy one. O yea, just one of these tickets puts 8 points on your record and takes your licence for 90 days.

I "drag raced" my friend from a stop light in town, she has a brand new GT convertible and I have a 1998 V6 lol. Neither one of us floored it or took it seriously but a cop saw us and got both of us. We got two tickets, Speed Contest and Unafe Starts. Neither one of us lost our license though.

thats not true at all...a cop can do whatever he or she wants to get you to break a law.
pennsylvania state police have an LS1 car, and a 99 or 01 cobra, both all tinted out, that are meant to stir up street racers. i know that a few townships around northern detroit have them as well. last summer i was leaving troy sports, traveling on 16 mile, and i saw a black or dark blue SS with flashing lights, and he had a cobra pulled over. the cop standing next to the SS had a shirt on that said something like "street racing enforcement team"...

where I live there is a LS1 camaro with a system and tints. They don't try to get you to street race but, if you have a semi fast car and you pull next to a fully tinted out camaro on the street you might see if he wants to play. That right there is what he'll pull you over for. I got a "racing on hwy" ticket but, in my start it's 6 points and 300 bucks and I didn't lose my licsense.

It sounds like the camaro was a cop. If he was and the cop edged him on or floored it first he can not get a ticket.
No, the camaro wasn't a cop, he got a ticket to. The laws are different in every state. I guess Alabama is very strict. They do have undercovers at the beach during the spring break month but they are all suv's and trucks. My buddie will get his licence taken when he goes to court.

More then likely it was just a wreckless driving ticket, and the cops just name it something else. I love it when someone always tries to give advice on what the cops can and cannot do, especially when they have little to no experience at all when it comes to police procedures and traffic regulations.

Here in PR you get $3,000 and a citation if the other driver is caught too, besides they give everything they can come up with when they pull you over like exhaust, tints, visibility obstruction, wreckless driving, the speeding ticket etc. They give you all their notebooks can handle. The 3,000 ticket is for street racing no matter where they get you, around town or in highway is the same ticket. That ticket also cost you 6 points on your license although they don't take it away. My cousin and a friend are passing by that nightmare already. On top of that you have to add the cost for the lawyer.
Street Racing is something serious here, cops have some balls to give you a ticket that big. The thing is you see the same cop that pull you over next week on a Fckng integra with the darkest tint you've ever seen and a loud and annoying exhaust and if some other cop pulls them over they forgive him cause he's a cop too!!
I got a "racing on highway" ticket not too long ago here in Miami, FL. In FL it is a criminal offense, not just a traffic ticket, and I have to go to court and hope to catch a break. I could potentially lose my license for a while, but let's not think about that. And even if the Camaro was a cop, it wasn't entrapment. They were merely offering you the opportunity to do what you are already predisposed to doing.
ya they hand cuffed a kid i know here in ft. lauderdale for street racing down here you here of atleast 4 deadly car wrecks due to street racing every month, but they are mainly ricers

so true. entrapment is a cop saying something like let's go here, doing something illegal and making you an accomplice

when working with the PA state cops near my old job, they told me that when they were really fishing for street racers, they would send the "pursuit car" out with one of the young hot lady cops...and she rides around revving at people.

Times have changed, back in 1998 I was driving a 300z about a 130 between gulf shores and Mobile (going back to mobile) 3am in the morning got pulled over by a cop, I had 2 17 girls and 27 year old guy in the car, I was 20. There was a case of bud in the back ( I was not drinking) and I was young a stupid, anyway long story short, thank god the cop was a Auburn Fan (I played at Auburn at the time), he let me go and said "boy, you better hope coah tuberville can is worth a ****!" LOL. Let me go no ticket no nothing. Anyway sorry to hijack, it just reminded me of the good ole days when cops were cool!

This is why i drive like a women ever since i got a reckless op 2 years ago. I eventually got it dropped to a 25 over ticket, but yeah...
Someone answer me this, why do they enforce speeding in fairly desolate parts of the highway? I've never seen a traffic accident caused by someone going 85 in a 65.... Tailgating etc etc is what causes accidents.

Wreckless driving ticket is a whole different story. Here, there is also a racing on highway ticket and that is what my friend and the camaro got. I've known a guy several years now that's been a cop for 15 years and that's where I'm getting my info from. This is about people telling stories of tickets that did happen, which apparently means the cop can do it. So, nobody is trying to give advise on what the cops can and cannot do, just what they have done.
