it all depends on how much money your willing to spend. if you got about 700 definatly go with the C&L CAI with Tuner. it shows the largest gains that i have seen. personally i dont have enough money YET for a tuner so im going with the MRT CAI. As far as the Noise goes you will hear the engine pulling in more air so it will be noticable but its not like a hissing sound ( the sound of a turbo). but you will hear it.

Another vote for the C & L CAi and SCT tuner combo. Got 25 RWHP with just the tune and intake, another 10 with the sinlge flowmaster AT added. short shifter and torque limiters and it drives very well and controlled off the line and with cruise set at 60 over a distance I got 30.6 MPG!!!. a 14 second car that gets 30mpg....and looks good too...hmm...am I dreaming?

I feels teh same way!
I chose the C&L combo from brenspeed. I figured If I was going to spend this much money.. I should do it right the first time.
And yes, you do hear it sucking in more air.. kinda cool... not too loud though.

Nothing better then the sound of an intake on a cool night. I dunno how loud they are on the 4.0L, but my old zetec roared with the intake, sounded 10x better then those ricer fart cans

I would ge either C & L or demolet........I had a C & L but sold it because I prefered the custom look and color of the demolet intake......they make about the same power gains I would say....I would recommend 100% going with one that requires a tune.  It definetly makes a huge difference......you will love it.......as far as claiming 35rwhp.......from intake tune and exhaust...........I dont believe it.

I will give you my non expert take.

Most of your HP gain will come with the more agressive tune, not the intake.  That being said a CAI will flow more air than stock so you can get more performance out of a CAI than a stock unit. Now if you get a CAI that does not require a tune then are you flowing more air, no not really else you would need a tune because you would be running to lean.  I think the response you will get is to save up and get a CAI and a tuner combo.  There are some used items floating around in the classifieds or ebay, but I would stay away from CAIs that do not require a tune, it is cheaper but I do not think you will get noticable gains from it.

Just get a K&N drop in, you'll hear a little more intake noise and a slight but noticable response difference. And it'll ony set you back about 50-60 bucks......leaving you enough for a can of chrome colored spray paint to paint your intake tube, cause that will increase horsepower by at least 10%..lol....just kidding...you'll be happy with the K&N......

Buy a tuner with your money, skip the intake for now, and then save up and buy an intake later.  You will notice a MUCH bigger difference if you get the tuner than just a non-tune required intake, especially if you are asn auto transmission.  You can always buy an intake later, and download a new tune for it.

How I did it on a limited budget:
1. American Thunder Axleback exhaust.  Noticed a nice difference, and the car was a lot more fun to drive, since it sounded so much better.
2.  Diablosport tuner.  Biggest difference performance wise over any other --- but the engine still ran out of air at higher rpms....
3.. C&L intake.  Engine pulls harder throughout all rpm's -- but screams at redline now.... instead of gasping, it's chomping at the bit for more speed.

Now I have an exhaust,  C&L intake and Diablosport tuner, couldn't be happier.

What you do with your money is your business, but why buy an intake now, that you will hate later?

u will need a tune cuz it will run really lean...doesn't seem like a well engineered thing to not require a tune...its worth a try. can u be the guinea pig

Dude, don't buy that CAI, save another hundred bucks, buy a tuner first... trust me... why are you giong to spend 90 dollars on something you throw away in 6 months?

Get a GT take off muffler if you want something to make nice noise when you get on it... you can get one of those for 50 bucks, and it will be loud enough to muffle any intake anyway.

Stay away from ebay intakes.  Read what folks say here, I did, they have been through all of this already.
