Default Automatic Transmission Cable

Last week I got my Automatic 97 out of storage and I had a hard time getting it out of park to the gears.
I had my transmission guy look at it because it's just to cold here to get under it and look. He told me the transmission cable is rusted and sticking. The cable is from Ford only and for me it was a back order part and not cheap.
A few days later I have the car on the road and now it is very easy to get into gear. I have to believe after looking at the cable that there must me a bunch of cars out there with this problem. Just wanted to let you all know about it.

Try some good old WD-40, it'll probably do wonders, good luck.

Default RE: Automatic Transmission Cable

That is one of the draw backs on letting the car sit out winter. Everything wants to stick together with rust. The rubber material on the cable was gone and the metal was exposed and for me it was to late for wd 40. I wish I would of thought about this before I put the car away for winter.
It's not a hard job to change it but when it's cold outside the first time I start it andfor me I just have my friend change it in the trans shop. At least he doesn't try to way over charge me.
I think looking back I should of put wd on it every year. But who knew you had to do that. Or is there a posting here that someone said to do it.
Anyways, if you have a automatic take a look at your trans cable and if it looks rusty then try the wd on it before it locks up.
