I was overtaking a truck today towards the beginning of a 5 hour drive...when all of a sudden, I hear something hit my windshield. I was quessing it was a rock or other small debris (the hit didn't sound that bad). I took a quick scan of my windshield, don't see anything, and thought nothing of it. When I finally arrived at my destination, I stopped for gas and began to clean all the dead bugs off my windshield only to discover about a 8 inch crack coming from the bottom corner. I looked closer and it stemmed from a small knick from whatever hit it.
After doing some quick research, the type of crack cannot be fixed and the entire windshield must be replaced. Any help or referrals would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had mine replaced last summer at a car window specialist here in Canada. It was replaced with an original (with the pony) . So try to find the same kind of store.

Where did you have it fixed, and how much did that cost you? (In Canadian dollars)
The store is called VitroPlus (I live in the province of Quebec). The insurance covered the replacement but if I remember correctly the cost was around 900$

Be sure and check with your insurance company. When I got a crack in mine, they told me that if you get a small chip, a lot of insurance companies will pay 100% if you let a glass place fix it. A lot of times the fix is still visible, but restores the integrity of the glass, thereby reducing the possibility that the little chip will turn into a big crack. However, for bigger problems, some insurance companies have a lower deductible for windshields. Mine's $50. So it wouldn't hurt to call them and find out.

Im dealing with this right now. I had a rock hit my window when we had the last big ice/snow storm. My insurance told me I had a $50.00 deductable. They would have replaced it for free if they put a plug in it instead of replacing the whole window. Mine was a rock chip. It hasn't started spreading yet. [&:]
tap that chip with a nickle or quarter and get it spreading, then get the whole winshield replaced......I have never had luck with a repair, better to replace.

I talked with my insurance company and found out that they do not offer a reduced deductible for the damage. Currently, my deductable is $500 and the part itself (OEM) is roughly $300. Without doing any more math, it looks like I'll be paying out of pocket for this one...arg!
