just wondering, when would you call off a high speedchase and have the helicopter follow?

the attorney general guidelines state that you cannot engage in a "chase" due to only traffic violations.  (very gray area) your traffic violations can easily become criminal violations when things turn reckless.

I got hit at school by somone and he did $400 worth of damages. i havent told insurance in a couple of days. Do i have to do it within a 24 hour period, cause he says he wont pay. What are my options?

you can be charged criminally for leaving the scene of an accident and/or failure to report an accident.  not a good thing.  i suppose you can still try to claim the damage through your insurance, but they may want a police report.

Do you really check if you know the person on the PBA card? Also, what if the card is expired, like from 2001? Do you just toss the card when you receive them?

My car is very well known in this town. I used to get pulled over about 3 times a month but never recieved a ticket. The last time I got pulled over the cop walked up to the car and said "hello Mr. McBride". I dont remember ever being pulled over by him. Do the cops tag your car in the computer to watch out for it. By the way I always say "yes Sir and no Sir" when talking to the cops which I think helps me out.

i received my first ticket in december going 86 in a 70 mph area, the california highway patrol ended up getting me for tints right before i signed off for the speeding ticket... my question is, is there a statute of limitations for tickets? I have not received notice and I have contacted the court, the people I have spoken with all tell me the ticket has not been entered into their system yet, and may take another 60 days.

I would contend the ticket but its 2 hrs south of where I live... and i dont think i'd win cause the chp had a radar on me but singled me out from my friends (we were a group of 5 cars and I was the middle one...=/)

i have checked before, i have actually called from the cop car while on the stop...if i ask who gave the card and you don't know or give some uncle's brother's friend of a neighbor who used to know some guy...well, you're getting a ticket.  um, if it's expired i still ask who gave it to them, but i will usually still honor it.

yes, there is a statewide and nationwide system used to track your driving/criminal record.  this includes warnings.

ok first...being the middle car, or the last car doesn't matter.  we're trained to visually estimate your vehicle's speed...the radar or laser just confirms our estimation.  you will never win with that argument alone.  i'm not sure about why the ticket isn't entered into their system.  i have never heard of that.  ours are entered pretty much immediately.  there is a statute of limitations in NJ for traffic offenses, it's one year.

I have 1 written warning, a ticket for 59 in a 40, and a ticket to failure to remain on the right side of the road(**** ticket). I have been pulled over 2 times and recieved no ticket due to knowing a few cops by working at subway. I paid a $25 fine and then a  $50 to clubs of waterbury, ct. I live in a smaller town and was curious as to what my punishments would probably be for another ticket. whether it would be driving retraining or suspended license etc. I have had cops sit in a driveway next to me and wait for me to leave my house, i have had cops follow me to school, i have had cops sit outside my house 100 feet from my driveway to give me tickets, etc. Is that considered illegal b/c they were gunnin for me all b/c of a complaint in my neighborhood saying i fly up and dnown the street every morning before school. when it was just the car being loud.

thanks a bunch!

Nope, it's not considered illegal. A lot of times neighbors will call and even tell the cops that they can sue their driveway to sit and watch for speeders, etc. They could have been waiting for you specifically, but even if they were it's still legal.

Isn't that entrapment?  Isn't entrapment illegal, or did that go out with the rest of our civil liberties with the Patriot Act?

Question from a fellow North Jersey Mustang owner...

How does the aggressive driver phone # work I see on the drivers alert signs work?

Lots of ppl drive up on me and try to race on the GSP when they see my car.  Since I can't have any major issues with my license (I have a job that I am registered with the police and other agencies) I have never raced (plus I'm a bit too old to be street racing...lol) .    I'm curious...IF someone were to call and report an aggressive driver what would happen?

I have never called the # (nor would I, unless I saw someone cause and accident) but I always wondered if someone could get a ticket from one since it is "he said, she said" in my opinion.

Thanks in advance!

I was going on the Palisades one day and a DT had stoped some one on the road, I passed them and went to a gas station before the toll for the GW bridge, I was refuling the car and when I finished I started to move just a few feet from the pump, no I have not left the gas station and the same cop car was right behind me, he turned his lights on and pulled me over, let me remind you this was not even a minute after I finished fuling my car. I asked what I did wrong and he did not say anything, now I did not want to make it more difficult so I just handed him my documents and did not say anything after that. He came back and just handed me my papers back and said they had a call for a suspect and said that my car fit the description, now the interesting part was that I was driving my honda accord and I have body kit, rims and I have not seen anyone with my combo of after market trims. Now my Q? is this legal of was his story BS, and he was trying to get lucky with something?

Entrapment is one of those things that people toss out there when tehy really don't understand it. Entrapment is the instigation of a crime in the attempt to obtain cause for a criminal prosecution. Situations in which a cop merely provides the occasion for the commission of a criminal act (like when an undercover agent posing as a narcotics dealer is approached by a would-be customer) do not constitute entrapment. Only when the crime was not initially contemplated by the target is entrapment said to occur.

For example, an undercover cop can't recruit a previously law-abiding individual into a drug distribution ring in order to prosecute. To give another example. Lets say I am undercover and you are riding with me in a car. Then I say "lets go rob that store" and convince you to go along with me. After you go in the store, I arrest you for robbery. That is entrapment.

If a cop is hiding somewhere and you don't see him and then he stops you for speed. Or if he is waiting for you and only you to speed and then stops you, that is not entrapment. Nobody convinced or enticed you to break teh lay...that was a decision you made on your own.

People most commonly use "entrapment" when a cop stops them after he was hiding with his headlights out. For some reason, an urban legend has gone around saying that they have to have their lights on o else it's entrapment. Unfortunately, that gets many people into trouble as they quickly find out they are wrong. Another HUGE one involves Miranda. People always seem to think that if you are not rea your rights after being arrested, then the charges get dropped or the arrest isnt legal, etc. Miranda has nothnig to do with being arrested...it has to do with custodial interrogation.

And just to add, i don't make the rules...and as anyone that knows me from the PB&J, 5.0, or General Tech section can tell you, i don't take sides either. I just take the info that was given to me and exlain the situation in unbiased terms. If the cop was wrong, i explain why. If the person was wrong, i explain why. I gain nothing by taking sides and siding with the law all teh time, and all that does is further confuse people. I find it's much better to stick strictly to facts :)
