Killer cops?? This is a funny situation for law enforcement. If they didnt stop the fleeing driver then they could have ran into someone else and killed them, then there would be those who say "oh the cops didnt do their job well enough to stop the driver, now my *whoever* is dead, I hate cops" Ummm well, I think if somone close to you drove on that stretch of highway every day then you would want the police to quickly stop somthing like that no matter what the cost. Also if that wreckless driver hit one of your family memebers you would think before you say "killer cops". That person risked their own life and everyone elses out on that road including the deputies and troopers. You can thank the "killer cops" for their bravery in stopping that insane person, possibly saving many lives and, thank god no innocent people were hurt that day by that unfathomably stupid person.

Yeah, I don't see why they're killer cops. They took a dangerous driver off the road. Especially an inexperienced one at that. A 17 year old doesn't have the driving experience to handle an SUV at over 100 mph. She could have killed a minivan full of kids. Then it would have been the cops fault for not stopping her in time.

About a year ago, here in town, a car full of kids (black kids) stole a car and went joyriding. The driver was 15. There were 8 people in the car I believe. They ran from the cops and wrecked. All of them died. Very tragically might I add. Some were even decapitated. The parents then tried to sue the town b/c the cops chased them. One guy was even dubbed a "hero" because he didn't let his kid go with them. Car full of 7 or 8 people pulls up, kid asked dad if he can ride with them, knowing a 15 year old is at the wheel, the dad says no, he's then a hero. I call it good sense. My dad would have beat me, the other kids, the other kids parents, some random people, called up some more people and cursed at them, etc....thusly ending said situation.

True story.

Moral: cops do their job.

Don't fuggz with Georgia Cops.
The girls in the car were probably just crank'n Britney Spears and rock'n out and didn't even know the cops were after them and the next thing they knew their SUV was spinning out of control for no apperant reason. [sm=smiley24.gif]

I think they could've boxed them in, slowed them down and THEN done a pit. The cops knew at that speed the occupants of the SUV were most likely going to get killed.

I agree she needed to be stopped, but there's always a better and safer way. That and as far as i'm concerned they murdered the passenger, Just as much as the driver did, she had no control over that driver's actions.

Just plain sad

They need to start rigging helicopters with those big magnets that can pick up cars.
Just don't pick'm up right before they go under a bridge. That could be quite the mishap.

I still say the cop that did that is a retard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! When I first saw this topic I figured it was another "cop bashing" [:@] thread. As I read all the replies (before watching the video) it seemed about 50/50 for and against and I thought hmm, how about that. It's easy to sit here and watch the video and say "they screwed up" or armchair quarterback the incident.

Let me just say that I am the most pro-law enforcement person, who is not in law enforcement (yet) you will probably ever meet.

I agree with some of the other replies above about the potential harm that the driver could have done if she continued on. I agree that the vehicle needed to be stopped before anyone (bystander or LEO) got harmed or injured. I don't think the PIT manuever should have been used at that speed though. The result aside from the death, was almost predictable. Your traveling at 80+ MPH and you force a SUV out of control? What do you think is going to happen? I think a better approach would have been to call off the chase and use air support. Pick up the chase again as they exited the freeway where the PIT manuever or spike strips could be used with less risk of death. I'd be curious to see if their SOP's on chases have changed since the incident.

And how would you have felt if that pit had gone bad and killed your wife and children? Would you have gone and killed the Cop?

The cops were 100% wrong, the highway was too populated for that stunt, he could've very easily caused multiple deaths with that stunt at those speeds.

They could've boxed her in and then slowed her down, i've seen it done.

I know your talking about me JD...Why would i get mad about it...98LS1 posted a Great story...

It doesn't matter if your black or white...I would never let my son get into a car full of people with an inexperience driver driving....8 people in a car...I don't know of any car designed to hold up to 8 people..

Last but not least of course....LOL...I only get mad when people stray far away from what were all here for...The love of mustangs...There's no need to start bringing color of skin or race of any kind on here....Unless your talking about the color of your car i really see no reason.:D

There's no harm done with mentioning black's in a story...I will admit some are very bad parents...Same goes with any color. With that said..I'm done...Great story 98:D

Yeah you have a very good point...In most states....Such as as washington state...The cops will completely stop the chase if the highways are over populated or If they can get your license plate numbers they will call it off...

although I agree wholeheartedly with you and everyone defending the trooper, I can't believe they did the pit at over 100 mph. I don't think I've ever seen them do the pit at that rate of speed with that much traffic.

Yeah, I would think they have a speed maximum where they cant do it over. Its just stupid to do it while going 100.

of course if that were in san diego or los angeles the driver would have been shot before she could have crashed. that person was definately running from something other than her suspended license, just like o.j... right? haha
Yea, damn cops doing thier jobs to protect the public.
maybe the ones where you are at but the ones here are all just so damn lazy, all they do is sit in their speed traps around the city and bust your @s& if your going more than 5 miles over the speed limit. btw---i have speed trap maps for the san diego area if anyone is interested.

Im interested, I know where a few of them are on the 125 and 15 south. Anyway about the vid I am 50/50 on whether the cops should have called off the chase or done the PIT. Every cop is very aware of the dangers of the PIT. I don't think the cops knew the girl had a suspended license and they probably didn't know that the girl was only 17. Either way the judgment was made in the best interest of the public and its tragic.

Yeah, the girl f'ed up big time by running and some would say Darwinism at work. On the other hand, why do we have air support? A lot of areas have rules on police chases that go to the effect of if the continuing the chase is goind to be a danger, call it off. No one needs to die over traffic violations. SUV full of guys who killed a bus full of school kids - use the rocket launcher. SUV with two people for a traffic violation, get the tag# stay there long enough to get air support and BACK OFF!!! As soon as you get into a high speed chase, you now have more than one car travelling at stupid speeds on public streets. And remember, I am sure that all the cops are thinking about the other cars first and the offender second. yeah right.

sionix
12-05-2004, 09:09 AM
you are most definitely correct, it is procedure to not do the pit at those speeds unless the person is known to be a felon or something. they had no way to know? what about runnin the plate before you take them out... and it was a frikkin pathfinder and the cop car couldnt burn by it and then slow down, then one of MANY trailing units pit it? bullsh!t, complete bullsh!t. cops just get pissed when you defy them and they get ants in their panties. that was clearly excessive and undue force and the cops involved should be punished. no armchair quaterbacking here, thats just their procedural rules to not pit at those speeds, and to try to forcibly slow the person down first, once the person rams a cop car, THEN take them out with extreme prejudice. its one thing to run, its a whole nuther matter to ram a cop car to get away.

sionix
12-05-2004, 09:18 AM
ill post again like a muzzerfukker. i really cant believe they pitted her at 100 just for running, they KNEW, literally KNEW she was going to die. they KNEW it, they do that alot at lower speeds and know its effects, they KNEW she was going to die. and did it anyway, JUST cuz she ran..... wow..... they didnt even ram the cop car... and yeah, WHAT ABOUT THE PASSENGER?! maybe she wanted the driver to stop, the cops are supposed to take into account that a passenger may be present..... good god, suspend that pig. not all cops are pigs, dont get me wrong, but HE IS. like that guy bashed that pt croozer, thats a n!gger, not all blacks are, but HE IS. and that cop is the porkiest pig ever...
