Well, my dad owns a 97 Cobra. Today i brought it to the dealership i work at and was planning on machining the front rotors and replace 2 tires. So mid-way through the morning a PDI truck pulls up and there is a black 05 Mustang GT on it. So one of the techs drives it in and i started doing the PDI ( pre-delivery inspection). Then i was going to test drive it but i thought... Hey why not see how a 97 cobra would go upagainst this thing. SO we left for lunch and we were a few cars apart on the highway. Then i caught him and we played for a bit, then got lunch and started back to the dealership. Well, we tried a 30 roll and i pulled on him maybe half car. Then we got to the highway and we did a 60.... I was in 3rd in the cobra, at 2kish rpms, and the rear end gears are 3.27's. The new GT, was in 3rd gear, with 3.55 gears. He didnt remember how many rpms. But we went at 60 and i couldnt pull away from him what so ever. We stayed even and he was pulling on me. Im sure if i had downshifted to 2nd and tached it to 7, i could have jumped on him. But i was super suprised what the new GT can do. It sure didnt feel like the power my dads cobra has. The new GT really doesnt have that head snap to it. I ot a few more pics of it also. And when it was in the shop i looked over the underneath for a bit. I dont like the exhaust on this thing, and now when you replace springs you have to have a strut compresser, the gas tank looks like saddle bags that straddle the drive shaft, which is now 2 pieces. The shifter doesnt go into youre trans like the ealier models, the bottom of the shift handle goes into a hook and its connected to a rod on the trans. Its pretty much like a brand new car, everything has changed.

You are talking about a GT right? I wouldn't think a V6 would be able to hang with you much less beat you.

It's already got a tail out? or did you catch the left signal at the off there?

Thats why I hate cars with turnsignals/brake lights that are one in the same.

Stock Cobras weren't tuned much for low end torque, maybe that's why. Whereas Machs and the new GTs are tuned for torque.

You'll get him on the top end I suppose.

Pre 03-04 Cobra's have a very horrible torque curve. That GT motor needs time to break in, if it had a couple grand on it I bet it would have pulled alittle from a roll.

We have plenty of good races here. Not just ones like this. But lately the "ricers" have gone away??? I want them to come back, thats the only thing to race here. No one else has anything. My dads cobra is not stock. It has MAF, CAI, IMRC deletes, pulleys and a pro 5.0 shifter. Oh yea and Dan, me and my buddys 04 Mach raced and we stayed side by side no matter how we raced. From a dead stop, from a 30 roll and a 55 roll. I wish he would get some 4.10 or more. But he said hes happy with what he has.

I dont think he will. It would own if i got a nice 100 shot of NOS. and some drag radials. My buddy with the mach is getting CAMS, 150 shot and BFG's. lol. He is gonna own all MACH's at the track... and most other cars. I'll have to take you for a rdie in the Cobra when summer comes back around.. lol. You have to drive the 2.3 soon. LMAO.
