You know, with the amount of you that hate 71-73's that much, you'd think I'd be able to find a cheap one. Seriously, the sportsroofs from that year have one of the best side and rear profiles on any car. They just lack the front aesethics of the 65-70 fastbacks. I just hate the fox bodies though, they look like an 86 focus coupe, not exactly the cream of the crop.

the mustang II was a great car for it's time, and it saved the whole mustang image in a time when things weren't good. The mustang II could handle, and was a ball to drive. Even though underpowered for a mustang, the 302 Mustang II, was a great car when ford needed one. And i would bet you would be hard pressed to find a hot rodder or enthusiast that doesn't preach the greatness of the mustang II's front suspension and it's value.
It may look like a pinto, but it saved the line from the 71-73 downhill spiral.
im gunna get flamed, but i pick the 71-73 over the 64-66 and i dont like 79-82 i love the 83 styling, and its OK up till the 05
and as galactusz said way earlier on the first page about the II's vs all those badass cars, i am not sure if he was calling them ugly, now im not defending those companies and saying anything about them being better, but i think those look freakin sweet, specially the cuda
I had enough of what is the best poll's and threads (most people vote for there own year ride) so i though what about your least favorite stang. I see were your coming from about bashing peoples rides but if you like your car so much who cares what some dipshit on the internet says. I know some cars on here that I am not fond of in the pictures I have seen but the members passion for the car is obvious and some of their insights and help is invalubale.
I saw a few people mentenioned they didnt like the fox body mustangs..... I have a 88 hatchback its extremely SLOW yes I know but honestly ive never had/seen a car run that good. I got the 4banger one (got it from a little old lady for $1200) havent needed to put a dollar towards it other than tires and typical maintence items. But the 5.0s were quite fast. Oh and i wanted to mention I wasnt all the big of a fan of the 94-98 stangs... They never really caught my attention to well

i think it put it very well before when i said even though certain style stangs are something i would never really wanna own i would still rather drive one of them than almost any other car. would i enjoy driving a hemi cuda? sure - but i would feel like i was cheating on my wife or something driving it down the road because i know deep inside i am a FORD man.
doesnt anyone else share that brand loyalty?
and yes later model 5.0's were great engines for durability and drivability but i still prefer a 4bbl its just more "muscle" IMO. I dont really care for the fox bodies because there were 18 kagillion of them running around since they were basically unchanged for close to a decade. if i had to take a fox though i would want either the 1st gen (like 79's) with t-tops or one of the later hatchbacks from later on with the factory ground effects and spoiler and all that crap. look inside one though, it night as well be a tempo or escort in there ya know? the interiors havent looked sporting from 79-04 IMO (the 94-04 ones looked similar to t-bird dashes which was nice in a tbird but wtf in a mustang)
just remember, everyone has their own opinions and you know what they say about them. but always remember
Now I dont HATE any mustang, I just dont like the 71-73s and ns95s as much as the rest, and like I said I'll leave the pinto drivers alone because they get enough crap...oooppss, I called it a pinto

The Mustang II is at the bottom of my list, excluding the Cobra model which I actually like quite a bit. Of the classics my least favorite would have to be 65-66 coupes.

lets not talk about stock HP for the cobras or king cobras - yes they were low but so was everything else then.
.. they all dissapeared cept the camaro/trans-ams. i remember hearing the car used in smokey and the bandit II needed nitrous to do a burn out but i dont see people crapping on those.
Rated power yes.. but the Trans AM and Formula only were down for two years on the top engine option. 75 and 76, yeah they had 455s and 400s but they wre from the big cars, luxo cruiser engines, a cam and headers made them a low 13 second stomper real easy. From 1972 untill 1979 the fastest production car built in the USA was a Pontiac, even the vette was slower.
The car used in the second movie was a 3rd gen, and yeah those sucked hardcore. Prior to and including 79, the Pontiacs needed nothing to roast the tires. The second movie had a 305 slug for the car, it was a disgrace to anyone who owns a TA, unless they have a 82-97 TA..
I like the Mustang II, the suspension is adaptable, it isnt really that great although it can be made to work quite well. The reason its so popular with the street rodders is its cheap, parts availability is high, and they couldn find donors really easy untill the last few years. Calling them a Pinto, well having raced Pintos with mild 351Ws in them, that isnt really a slam.. :)
My dream is to own one of every year! I like 'em all. I prefer the 67-68 but I'd love to have a 78 King Cobra! I have had two Fox Mustangs an 80 4cyl. and a 85GT and a 641/2, 65, many 67's a few 68's a 73. I never owned a II but my buddy in High School had a Black 76 Cobra II and we stuffed a stock 351W in there, it was a terror. Another bud of mine had a 75 Mach1 with a V6 4spd that he beat the crap out of! I'd own one for sure. If I had to pick it would the 74 as I'm told it's even tough to swap in a V8. But I think the II's are cool, they did sell more of those too so someone liked 'em. Heck even the Pinto is cool now days. And yes the early Mustang and the II's both had a humble begining but then so did the mighty 427 Cobra! I know I'm rambling but give me a 78 King Cobra with an HO 5.0L and a 5 speed any day!

"a Mustang II is a Mustang too"
i would feel like that too. my family is deeply ford. we have had roots with them since their begining in 1903
*grruminator pinches my cute little butt, because he cant pass me to honk bobo
Hey the only reason I can't pass is cause I run out of gas..... ....stupid crappy worn out carb....

79-86 are the worst. As for the II, You guys are crazy, the KING COBRA was the sh!t. That was a awesome car for those years, think of what else was out there. Not much too choose from.
How much horsepower did the King Cobra advertise as having?
considering that the gran torinos used in Starsky and Hutch had 460s originally rated at ~150 hp, Id rather not think about it. Ya the IIs were not that great, but I still think the 71-73 sedans sucked the big one. The fast backs were kinda cool, but not the sedans.
