Flying Test

THUMPIN455 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 9:49:16 AM)

Its rotary wing, that would be Army territory.. USAF has predominantly fixed wing aircraft whereas the Army has only rotary wings.. The one button interface also points to US Army usage, USAF members can use more than one button at a time for control.. :)

grruminator78 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 9:53:03 AM)

Thumpin don't forget about the army sherpas

THUMPIN455 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 9:57:14 AM)

The USAF gave the Sherpa to the Army, since if you fill it with gas and put all three crew members in, it wont get off the ground.. the ACL is too low.. :)  We had them in Germany back in 88-92 to move MICAP around between the bases..

Besides the Sherpa isnt really an airplane, its an overweight ultralight.. [:D]

Have I mentioned my younger brother is an Army UH60 pilot? I swear he is the smartest man in the Army!

HAAAAAAHAAbwaaHWaaaha
That's funny
Smart+ARMY=wasted brain cells[;)]

By the way did you ever see the video of the AH64 that hit a tree
Pilot, "think I can make it?" you see two trees in the video, and the apache is trying to fly between them
Gunner, "NOPE"
Pilot, "oh yee of little faith" then boom he hits the trees!

ZZmustang -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 10:19:13 AM)

All these helicopters must not really be air force, Must be a miss print

grruminator78 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 11:01:39 AM)

Google is nice sometimes but there are some mistakes.  USAF does not own any attack helos, and one of the pics is from the CZECK AF.  Also 99% of AF helos belong to the operators.  Yes the AF does have helicopters, about as many as the ARMY has fixed winged acft.
Somebody has to teach the ARMY how to fly[;)]

gothand -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 11:24:02 AM)

Cool game ZZ, it is addicting!  I don't give a flying flip as to whether it is an Air Force or Army helicopter, it is a video game!!!![;)]

19stang66 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 11:53:57 AM)

ahh I remember this game. Last year in highschool whenever we went to the computer lab for a project EVERYBODY was playing this game. It eventually was blocked but it was addicting!

ZZmustang -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 1:17:31 PM)

Kinda the reason I put it hear. It's a game, who cares if it AF or not.

True but the way it was worded made it sound like that inter service rivalry we have going..  We have a few USAF people here, and we are always eager to play the USAF vs whoever game.. :)

Nothin personal, the GF loves that game, she plays it for neopets.. lol.

grruminator78 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 2:49:51 PM)

No harm no foul... just as long as we don't bash our friends with the funny little hats (it's just too easy!)

deebo68 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 2:57:40 PM)

We fly three types currently:

HH-60    Inventory = 64

MH-53    Inventory = 41

UH-1N "Huey"  Inventory = 63  (primarly used in AF Space Command)

Not sure if you count the Osprey, it's a tilt rotor aircraft, and it's pretty cool!

grruminator78 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 3:02:56 PM)

Last time I saw an AF huey was a vandenburg

THUMPIN455 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 3:03:34 PM)

Whats with the little brimless hats anyway? Are they trying to be elite like Paratroopers or perhaps SF?  Oh wait the SP's have little black brimless hats too..  nevermind.. :)

Anyone wanna know about Cargo aircraft?  Yay trash haulers for the win!

paddy187 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 3:07:03 PM)

Maybe US pilots should learn that big union jack and orange symbols on the top of APC's mean friendly and not foe!!!! Just a thought

deebo68 -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 3:07:48 PM)

Yea, they use the hueys a lot at VAFB and at the missile bases up North, i.e. Minot, ND, Malmstrom, MT, and F.E. Warren, Wyoming.  Sometimes when the weather is bad we hitch a ride out to the missile fields up here.

They're trying to come up with a "joint" replacement, but thats going to take some time.

Hard to see the jack when you are doing 300mph at 300AGL... but yeah they have been briefed repeatedly... those were some bad days...

US pilots do the best they can with the information on hand.  The "fog of war" and murphy's law takes over sometimes and knowone can help that.

crunchyskippy -> RE: Air Force flying test (2/21/2007 3:21:35 PM)

I'm a little late in the thread, but don't forget that the Marines have helos as well, including MX-1 (the POTUS puddle jumper).  We see it (three of 'em, really) quite often in the DC area.
