Cobra_II -> Transmission & motor mounts what to do? (2/20/2007 12:26:29 AM)

Hi I have a 77 cobra II with a 302 built to 400hp. I am looking for some help. The first thing is what I should do for a trany? I want to stay with a 4 or 5 speed manual, am having hard time finding one for resonalbe price that will work in that car and handle the hp. Not so sure about autos or how much work involved, and whats needed? what would be the best choice? I all so need help finding motor mounts for the 302 any suggestions will be helpfull. Thanks [;)]

i would go all out and grab a tremec t56 tranny,  that will no doubt handle the HP

tko 500/600

2nd option has all parts necessary and reflects this in it's pricing

i had an extra set of mounts but their gone now..... pretty much stuck with using stock 302 / mustang II mounts and you'll have a hell of a time finding them new. any local auto parts can get one side, but the other side is not made and i dunno why. if you come across a set that are sloppy you can drill the rivit out and replace with a grade 8 bolt and a lock washer, which is what i did with my first set in the car (they sold on ebay for like 50 bucks even in their condition) and you'll also need the frame mounts for the motor too if i remember correctly.

Thanks, what would be better for a street/ strip aplication for a transmission? Auto or manual and what kind? Not looking to break the bank. Thanks for any input.

well a C4 can be built strong as hell and will shift faster than you can with a stick, but most of use wish we had overdrive so a 5 speed stick is always a good choice
