What made you choose the Mustang over the Camaro? Was it just looks? Or was it something else? I'm really curious and i'm not looking to start a war/debate, just why you chose a Mustang over a Camaro. Please only reply if you're going to have serious answer, not a "Chevy Sucks Yo".

Mainly because the mustangs look cooler IMO. Also, I drove both (SS) and GT before buying, the SS is a much faster car... (obviously) but as for as compfiness, GT has it hands down IMO. Also, the GT being 4k cheaper did help a little.

Well personally I hate the way the Camaros look. They look like a catfish[&:] I can tolerate them in black with some nice wheels but still. I actually wanted and was looking at LS1 T/As. Even wrecked they still were a pretty penny so I bought the GT since it was cheaper. I lost a T/A at an auction by around $300. I wish I had bought it now but I love this car too. I just like the T/As because of the LS1 obviously, but a bigger attracting factor is the fact that you can get them with T-tops;)

It came down to looks and exclusivity for my Cobra. when I bought it I was also looking at a 2000 Z28 which was 2k cheaper and felt faster, but wasn't as rare as the Cobra. It wasn't until I saw the Cobra with it's top down that I chose it over the Camaro.

I wanted a 60's era muscle car. After looking for months and findng 20 thoudand dollar pieces of crap I started looking at newer models. Once I found out how much performace I could get out of a newer car and still have it a reliable comfy cruiser I changed my mind. After seeing the articles im MMFF and what the mustangs were capable of the decision was pretty easy. The comaros are pretty nice but I just liked the mustang better.

I just bought my car last month it came down to these 2 cars.
-2000 SS, LS1 133,000 miles.
-2002 stang V6 40,000 miles.
They were the same prince around 8500-9000, i still kinda regret not getin the LS1, sorry to say i still love camaros ive had my 91 for 3 years but in 5 years when (hopefully) the mustang still has a long life ahead of it and the camaro breaks down everyweek, like mine does now, ill knw i made the right choice

I like the look of the Mustang and the Camaro/Trans Am both. The Camaro has more power out of the box. Pretend that your favorite car has been a Mustang since you were about 5 years old. Also pretend your parents had a '85 GT that they enjoyed, and then pretend that you were in love with classic Mustangs, pretend your dad bought a '72 Mach 1 while you were a junior in high school, and then pretend that you found a Mustang *which we are pretending is your favorite car* in blue, which happens to be your favorite color, and then pretend that it was an EXCELLENT price, and on top of that, pretend it was on the first page of the first Auto trader magazine you were looking at once you decided you'd spend your money on a Mustang.
If you pretend all this, I think the answer is pretty simple.

Doesn't mean they are the better motor. They respond well to nitrous, but they have their problems...
I was actually looking at 3rd gen Camaros before I bought my car, but all the ones in my area were rotted and the T-tops leaked. My dad pulled into my driveway with my current 'bird and I loved it. The 5spd, T-tops, solid body and low price made me buy it. Even though it has 186,000 miles, she still runs like near new. The color could have been better, but the ladies love the purple. So I knew this had to be my first car, and I'm glad it still is.

Back in the 99-02 timeframe I drooled all over the LS1 WS6's.......but I was married and didn't have a chance in hell of ever owning one. And then in 04 the S197 stangs came out just as I was getting separated and had money to burn again.........the rest is history.
The Camaro never made much of a ripple in my pond, and the fact that my best buddy has the whole "GM is the shiznit---Camaros are badass---Fords suck" mentality didn't make me very prone to switching over to his side. I'll own a Camaro when he starts hatin on them.............and when they become better looking and more affordable than a Mustang GT.;)

In 2003 I was looking at both the 2002 Stang GT and the 2002 Camaro Z28 and they were comparably priced(Trans Ams were too $$$). I believe the most important part of the car is what's under the hood, so I bought the Mulletmobile.
Now I want an S197 GT.

I have owned A LOT of F-bodies and I just wanted a change. I love the way the stangs sound. Obviously I didn't get one because of the horsepower. I really like the way my Cobra feels and sounds. It's a really versatile car and the Modular engine is really amazing when you think about it. That little 4.6 makes just as much HP as the big 5.7s that I used to drive. I do have to say though, that a black WS6 is one bad looking mo fo. At the same time thoughthe Cobra and the Mach have that, "I could kill you if i wanted to" look about them. My wife still drives my IROC-Z though so it's all about AMERICAN MUSCLE!!!

interior on a camaro is pretty much crap.no use arguing. subjective.
exterior, ahh yes, sleek GT vs a wedge. again, no use arguing since its subjective, but my personal view is that camaro's look like giant turds born onto this world just to offend me personally. you may think the same of mustangs, you are wrong of course, i have proof.
engine? how do you figure? just power output? not everyone lives to race believe it or not.
suspension. true, mustangs don't handle so good stock, not like camaro's are corner carvers stock. who the hell buys either of these cars for handling? kill yourself if you did.

Where's the mullet? That one looks OK if he took the stripes off. I hate stripes on any car and the Camaros only look decent in black and sometimes red.
You're dillusional if you think the interior on the F-bodies are better. I don't know if the Firebirds/TAs are any different but the Camaros interior is a complete piece of ****. Both the F-bodies and the Mustang are pure plastic on the inside but the Mustang feels way more solid and put together. The Camaros plastic is always falling apart and it feels so damn cheap.

The New edges and earlier i didnt like at all, looked way to cheap to me. But the WS6 has the power i wanted and modability. At the time I bought my WS6 the 03 Cobras just came out and i really wanted one, but didnt wanna pay that much. I do have to agree with the sentiments of several members who have posted in this thread thus far...................arguing over a subjective matter (opinions) is a complete waste of time. Someone asked for the reasons us mustang owners chose the mustang over the camaro......so consequently you're gonna end up with alot of "because I think camaros suck" responses. You tell me how you're gonna successfully argue with someone who thinks like that and then I'll tell you what a genius you are.;)
Adding to my own reasonings, several ppl have statedabout buying a certain car "because" everyone else they know drives the competition. I found that to be a partial motivating factor for my GT purchase as well. I am surrounded by GM fanboys at work, and my two best friends are pro-GM/anti-Ford dudes as well. So having a fast, nice lookin new Mustang GT that shames everything they all own (performance-wise) somehow manages to put a little smile on my face when I think about it.:)
Now I just need to stay one mod ahead of the two LS1 Z guys at my work that are determined that their rematches with me will go differently than the first runs.

hmmm why i bought my mustang.... i had a 93 firebird formula.... not a bad car and I really liked it but it was an auto and **** was breaking so I wanted to get rid of it. needless to say, the only car in town with all the dealerships was a silver mustang gt, which I didnt even notice on the lot at all until i had driven a few other embarassing cars (sentra se-r specv), thank god I really didnt wanna buy that pile. so I took a peek into this silver mustang which now had my attention since it was a 5spd, leather, and looked damn good. so I drove it and the year stickers peeled off the window when i floored it so I had to buy it:D. I love ta's a lot but I really love the look of the 99-02 mustangs so I signed my old car away and I've been happy since. although I did get bored so the mustang forced me to get boost... and thats just too bad i spose....:)

The hood is really bad ass, just don't like how the bottom "snouts" flow into the hood. Something seems just a bit off.
If your talking about pewter's pic from above, I think his hood isn't snapped down all the way. Because the WS6's I've seen up close had a nice seamless flow from the bottom vents to the hood/hood vents.

Yeah, i think the WS6 hood is one of the baddest looking designs ever made, that was one of the big reasons why i bought it.

No its down all the way. They actually do not have a seamless look to them. Some people, myself included thought they did, until one day when i went out and relooked because i told someone they did. But nope, its exactly as the picture shows, a bit off i tihnk also, but bad ass looking none the less.

I think you are right. That is a nice car. I love the color. I think my favorite GM color is the Daytona Sunset Orange, of course I'm partial to "odd" colors.

Hmm.......that's odd. Maybe theone that I looked at a little while back had an aftermarket hood or frontend?.........or some kind of alteration? The nose/hood fit was really good on those. The cardid have a fair amount of aftermarket alterations/mods.......so its possible they tweaked or changed the frontend some kind of way.

It was probably a Firehawk. The firehawks have a different hood that make the lower snout seam perfectly into the upper snout. However, the Firehawk upper ram air snout is not as raised as the WS6 hood.
See here for example: http://www.pugetsoundpoci.com/photos/Puyallup05/Firehawk.jpg
EDIT: I found a better example: http://www.jabherbox.com/images/Firehawk.jpgFirehawk vs http://users.adelphia.net/~jwmathias/Silver2000WS6-A.jpgWS6. See the difference?

I am torn between a Mac and a PC. I think I will go to a Mac forum and ask for opinions.
MrRogers - we've had our run-ins and I know you are a solid dude, but if you think asking people from the Street and Strip section of Mustang Forums their opinion on whether to buy a Camaro or a Mustnag is "solid market reserach", then you have been sucking a crack pipe while hitting your head with a hammer. :D
You are extremely arrogant. I did not ask "Which one should I buy" I asked "why did you choose the mustang over the camaro"

Hmmm I don't see why everyone loves the hood so much it looks like a cheap piece of **** to me just like all the other scoops Pontiac puts on all their cars.

I like it because it truly is unique. I have never seen another car with a style hood like the WS6 has, and it has a in your face feel about it. It makes the firebird look like its pissed off and wants to get in a bar room brawl with a bunch of drunken irishmen.

The hood just makes the car look mean. Look at an older t/a and it's stupid looking - then next to a black or a red WS6 with that hood, it just looks sick....
I got a Mustang because i've been a ford guy forever... nothing can compete with the modular motor sound. The look of it, the feel of it. In the end, I just liked "the drive" more...

My creaky cloth interior sucks. There, I said it. My g/f's leather interior in her Camaro is definitely nicer but still not great.
That being said, I can't understand anyone, especially a man, who puts a car'sinterior that makes him feel all warm and fuzzy and whatnot ahead of the engine on his list of priorities. Maybe I'm just a retrosexual car guy, but that seriously blows my mind. [/soapbox]

I have owned Camaro, TA, and Mustang.
There are reasons, only 1 of these is available new today.

Because I spend 1.5+ hours in my car each day and would like to be comfortable. I'm not going to be uncomfortable just to make up the difference between the 3V and the LS1. I don't race to work. But come on Tommy, at least I got the GT and not the sixer... [sm=headbang.gif]

Yes, female buyers. Especially thosewho like V6 Mustangs because they're "cute."
Lime, the 3V wasn't an option when I was shopping. Things may have been different if it was.

I choose my 87 GT because I have always loved the look of the FoxBody. I have always wanted one.
I like the fact that there are a lot of options for me to mod the car as well.

If it wasn't an option when I was shopping, things would have been different for me as well. I'd have a red on red 04 goat M6.

i test drove both a 3.4L 1997 camaro and then my 2001 3.8L mustang...the mustang felt better and since my family has been a ford family, i felt likea traitor in that chebby :)it also ran like it had been threw off a cliff; i dont the 3.4L are any good but the 4.3L are pretty nice
It could not have been a 1997. The 1996+ came with the 3.8L.
must have been a 95 then because i know it was a late model and it was an odd number...

98--We get the idea. You love your car. Stop flooding this and every other thread with how much you love it, how much better it is, and how everyone else is wrong to have other opinions, regardless of the truth or falsehood of any statements made. Also, you are crazy if you think any Fbody handles better than all Mustangs. I would rape you through the twisties, even with 200hp less, guarantee it. ;). Then again, you'd rape me on the straights...for now.
Honestly, **** you. I still think you're full of **** on everything you've ever said about your car and I will continue to do so until you provide any shred of proof otherwise. Go buy a damn camera for crying out loud.
I'm sure your car will be faster than mine someday, at least, on the internet it will be. Afterall, you can still run 180mph with a 6.43 geared 300hp car...I can't compete with that ****.
And yes, stock for stock, the 3rd/4th gen f-bodies handle better....

Hmm, why I chose the Mustang. I will try to make a long story short.
As I was groing up my father was into racing his cars at the track (both Ford and GM cars) and I was the only kid of 6 that wanted to get into the racing with him.
Time passed, I moved out started my own family yada yada yada, Then my dad bought the Mach1 and I just loved the car, he hardly ever drove it but when he did it was balls out.
A few years ago he passed away and the Mach was still in his name and the banks, well I could never stand to see someone else with the car so I paid off the loan on the car and took it.
As for Mustang vs Camaro/TA, I like them all, and its different strokes for different folks....

longevity of mustangs makes them hard to beat. my old 89 5.0 5 speed had 240,000 miles when i sold it to my brother in law, and he still drives it almost every day. the engine was never touched, and the t5 rebuilt one time. now, my 99 gt 5 speed has 70,000 miles and is still going strong. hope it does as good as the 5.0!

Ya that one was 13.1 @109.7mph, on a 2.03 60', with an 8.5 @ 85 1/8. Only mods were 4.10s, intake, and pulleys. Stock rubber. 98, you have PM.
