ALL

I am in the market for UDP's, I know that the standard size is 25% smaller. Is there a company that makes them smaller, like 35-50% smaller? thanks in advanced.

As far as I know,  no.

In fact, all the UDPs sold now (Except for the very latest Steedas) are all made in the same factor by the same subcontractor....they just have different logos stuck on them.

Also, I don't think you will find UDPs that are significantly smaller than what's on the market now.  There are two problems you run into.  First is the obvious one...if you slow down the accessories too much, then you run into major problems like the engine overheating due to insufficient water flow, poor A/C performance, or a constant dead battery due to the alternator being underdriven so much.  The not so obvious problem has to do with the other function of the crank pulley.  The crank pulley is where the underdriving is "coming from" in a UDP kit.  The thing is that the crank pulley is also the Harmonic Balancer for the engine.  It must have a certain mass and size in order to work properly.  A smaller balancer will make the engine run rough and also makes it wear out much more quickly.  This will not only throw codes on the new engines, but it will can also damage the engine.  One can only make it so small before encountering this problem.

If you are after more HP, I wouldn't worry about the UDPs this much.  Shrinking the UDPs a little more might be good for 5 HP, but there are much better and safer ways to get that power.

Hi CrazyAl,

I have a 2007 GT and when I looked under the hood, I noticed that my stock UDP looks rusted and old. Is that normal? Also, I looked under the car at the rear axle and same thing. There are a lot of rusty looking parts.

Yeah, that's normal.  The OEM crank pulley is not painted or coated in any way, so it rusts.  Ditto for the rear axle housing, etc.

It looks bad but it won't hurt anything.
