the main reason im not worried about a pc atm, is because im getting my care repainted next month so i dont think ill have to worry about machine buffing

With a Porter Cable, You would have to drop the buffer on your car to do any damage with it. They are the best orbital polisher for the novice IMHO

+1! You'd really have to go bananas with the thing to mess up your paint, like turn it on, rest it on your hood and go make yourself a bag of popcorn type of negligence. It's almost fool-proof and with the advice on use you'll get from the forum and instructional sites on the web it would be an excellent investment for you if you real particular about your car's appearance.
