68 mustang alignment-shims?

can anyone help me ,i have new 17'' on front took in for alighment,eating inside of tire. they told me i need new springs,that it is adjusted all the way,the only other thing icould do is use shims,have you ever heard of this or have i got the wrong mech? i saw it on the machine. will new spring do the trick. please help thanks . quail

We only are familiar with 79+ Mustangs.  I am not sure of the alignment issues with older Mustangs, or how to remedy them...
