Default white stripes (GT) on bottom of car

[hr]
has anyone installed the white vinyl stripes that run along the bottom of the door (GT stripes I think)? I like the looks but I am unsure of putting them on. Thanks

Just did mine this last weekend. Basically took masking tape and lined up to where I wanted them on the fender, door and qtr section. When lining up pay attention where stripe is on backing - really not lining up backing but actual stripes. Start with door first. Undo 1/2 the tape masking tape, lightly wet areas stripe was going (soap and water solutuon - very little soap), then pull stripe paper backing and apply stripe with bondo applicator (credit card would work just as good). Then do other side of door, then move to fenders and qtrs. With the water solution does not feel like you are getting a good bond at first. Which is really the idea, helps eliminate mistakes. Use a hot air gun to get a good bond around door edges. Matter of fact once done I lightly went over whole thing with air gun (hair dryer works too). Good luck really pretty easy once you get going.

thanks for the reply. great info. where did you order the strip kit? I was looking though a book and was a little confused....are there different types? My car is a '66. was not originally a gt, but I like the strips and have built the car like a gt. thanks.

Not a problem. They are 69 GT stripes I got from cj pony. I've got a 70 and they did not make a 70 GT but dimensions same size as a 69 - worked fine. I basically put them on cause I had some surface tust toward bottom of car that once fixed could not match paint exaclty - the stripes made it less noticeable. Plus it looks better with a little contrast. If they make65 GT stripes my guess would be that would be fine for a 66- same body style.
