View Full Version : Leak Poll by Model Year Buckshot Barry 02-14-2007, 12:40 AM I created this poll to see what model year 2005-2007 Mustangs have the dreaded passenger side leak. Thank you to all that reply. mail906 02-14-2007, 12:11 PM Attention - Forum Moderator: It would be great if you could keep this poll up on top likely a sticky for example. It is an important topic. Thanks. Caution 02-14-2007, 12:18 PM Nothing yet wingman75 02-14-2007, 01:11 PM No leak yet.[sm=signs003.gif][sm=happy046.gif][sm=hail.gif] dborne 02-14-2007, 01:55 PM I know it's still early but it seems like maybe ford fixed this problem on the 07's rattsj 02-14-2007, 02:13 PM Had and repaired. Just a word of advice. Keep your eye out for gremlin quirks. ie.; one tail light lit up while car is off. Headlights not turning off. Traction control turning off while driving. Dash lights turning off while driving. The leak will cause complete electrical failure in the end. If you ezperience one of these quirks you probably should head to your dealer right away. What is happening is moisture has made it to your smart junction box. You can see the access panel on the passenger side. With any electrical component not designed for the elements will corrode from moisture causing the connecting wires to have poor conductivity. Eventually they will corode so much that there will be no conductivity. I have to say the dealer came through no problem and replaced my all of the wiring harnesses and the smart junction box when this happened to me back in 05, although I heard a lot of people had problems with their dealer because they weren't smart enough to figure it out. But just wanted to throw indicators out there for people who haven't want to read the gihugeous posts on this. TPony 02-14-2007, 03:09 PM Nothing yet! bee bop 02-14-2007, 03:23 PM I have the leak. The dealerhas had one attemp at fixing it. Still leaks, but not anywhere near the SJB. Got to take it back for attemp #2 and to fix the Passenger side seatback release which is now broken. jdback19 02-14-2007, 03:23 PM So there is a problem!?!!?! GD!!!! I drove in some pretty hard rain about 3 months ago and the next day i was vaccuming out the inside when i noticed the floorboard was SOAKED!! I was like WTF????? Is there anything i can do to fix it myself instead of dealing with the F TARDS at Ford? Juntech 02-14-2007, 04:12 PM I want to see the poll but i do not have a Stang. Which one should i vote for in order to see the results? blackmustangv6 02-14-2007, 04:22 PM So far my 2005 Mustang has had no leaks.... I know I'm probably gonna have one just as soon as I post this though.... Buckshot Barry 02-14-2007, 04:46 PM ORIGINAL: Juntech I want to see the poll but i do not have a Stang. Which one should i vote for in order to see the results? I added a "Just want to see the results" option. Thanks for looking. Juntech 02-14-2007, 07:42 PM ORIGINAL: Buckshot Barry I added a "Just want to see the results" option. Thanks for looking. Thank you, i hope more people will vote to give it a more well rounded result. What is the significance of the september 09 build date? Also, do you guys without leaks know what day your car was built on? Is there a good day to request them build it so as to not have the leak? Thanks. Buckshot Barry 02-14-2007, 08:02 PM ORIGINAL: Juntech What is the significance of the september 09 build date? 2cokeman posted this on the "SERIOUS LEAKING/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH 05+ MUSTANGS" thread "From what I understand from Mazda/ford in canada is that the leak will not happen with the 07's after 09-06? checked mine and nothing, it is sealed differerent at the seams on the right lower side!! " I thought it had significant merit to require that the 2007 model yearhave4 entries in my poll. vphokie 02-14-2007, 08:02 PM Where's the "born on" date of the car, I haven't checked but I'm assuming on the drivers door? Buckshot Barry 02-14-2007, 08:04 PM ORIGINAL: vphokie Where's the "born on" date of the car, I haven't checked but I'm assuming on the drivers door? That is where mine is located. Sticker is on the lower driver's door seal. 2cokeman 02-14-2007, 08:08 PM I see 1 person has a leak on 07 after 09/07........Does this mean I was told stories too???? Buckshot Barry 02-14-2007, 08:17 PM ORIGINAL: 2cokeman I see 1 person has a leak on 07 after 09/07........Does this mean I was told stories too???? If the person making that entry in my poll was referring to his build date and not his purchase date, it doesn't look good for your data. We have all read of water coming in at different places. Maybe our post 09/07 leak victim had one of the grommet ring issues and not a seam issue. Hopefully that poll person will respond. 07 Stang 02-14-2007, 10:07 PM ORIGINAL: Buckshot Barry I created this poll to see what model year 2005-2007 Mustangs have the dreaded passenger side leak. Thank you to all that reply. I'm glad you took the time to make this poll. I thought it was interesting what 2cokeman posted. My car was built in October and so far I have notnoticed a problem. We are getting rain right now so I plan to remove the passenger kick panel tomorrow to see if it is still dry. HypromanGT 02-14-2007, 11:34 PM Voted -- 2006 with leak. Kinda surprised that only 10 people have reported leaks so far... Please take the time to vote!! Thanks for putting this poll up, Buckshot. Mike521 02-15-2007, 01:10 AM I'm supposed to get my car in a week or so. Can I just go outside with a hose and drench it for a half hour and then look to see if it leaked? Rob_R 02-15-2007, 02:21 PM Original: Buckshot Barry If the person making that entry in my poll was referring to his build date and not his purchase date, it doesn't look good for your data. We have all read of water coming in at different places. Maybe our post 09/07 leak victim had one of the grommet ring issues and not a seam issue. Hopefully that poll person will respond. I'm the guy who put the post Sept leaker in there. My '07 was built the week of Oct 9. The door sticker says 10/07.....The only way I knowthe car was built the week of the ninth is because I was calling that Ford Dealer number and getting updates on my build. I posted in the other large thread about this some time ago. First time I noticed the leak, there was a swimming poolon the passenger side floorboard. The second time there was only minor dampness. Two trips (and about 10 days out of service) to the dealer yielded no results. The odd thing is that I have driven in heavy rain with no noticable leaks and we just had amonsoon here yesterday and no leaks. I was parked just like always during the monsoon yesterday (on a very very slight incline). The leak appears to be intermittent in both frequency and severity. As an aside; In the factory service manual, under the section on replacing theelectrical box(I thinked it iscalled the Smart Junction Box or SJB - I don't have time to look right now) inside the passenger side kick panel, Ford refers to the foam sheet over the SJB as a "watershield" and cautions not to remove it when installing the new box! jdback19 02-15-2007, 02:58 PM You cant hose the car down you have to drive through some rain and occasional puddles for it to get up in there. steve1173 02-16-2007, 11:23 AM Have an 07 Roush Stage 2 built 06/06. Took the hose out & bathed the cowl and windshield area with the car in the driveway forward facing uphill then forward facing downhill, so far no leaks. Did I test it right or am I missing something. Buckshot Barry 02-18-2007, 12:19 AM Do you all realize that for MY2005 and MY2006 almost 20% of the poll takers had the passenger side leak. We are looking at only 3% of MY2007 poll takers with the leak. Something must have been done for MY2007 to prevent the leak from the data we have here. cryptic26djp 02-18-2007, 01:24 AM How would you know if you have this leak? Buckshot Barry 02-28-2007, 04:14 PM Do we have enough data to conclude that the 2007 Mustangs are far less likely to have the passenger side leak? adherrera722 02-28-2007, 04:32 PM Haven't had any leaks yet that i know of and thank god for that cause it sounds like a nightmare but I think i may have a problem though. Weird vibrating sound on the right passanger side that is only there when i first start it up. It doesn't completely go away when it's warm but it's still there. Just at about 29,000 miles so got to get in it before the warrenty is up. Hoping it might just be a burnt out cat but i hope to god it's not the tranny. Anything but the tranny please 05MustangSally 02-28-2007, 04:33 PM No leak yet. Knock on wood [sm=headbang.gif] MartyMoose 02-28-2007, 04:59 PM I've been driving on some pretty wet roads recently, including this morning. Just checked the pass-side carpet next to the kick panel and the carpet is dry. I voted '07 "Dont have." (or whatever it was.) Build date: 10/06 Stormbringer 02-28-2007, 06:21 PM The weekend after I took delivery I had to drive home 45 miles in a torrential downpour so bad I had to pull over a few times and wait. No leak... 2cokeman 02-28-2007, 07:12 PM No leak, THANKFULLY!! donhall 02-28-2007, 08:40 PM Does the "leak" apply to convertibles? Didn't see any responses from soft-top owners..... gatkins94 02-28-2007, 11:07 PM Actually....I have a 2006 and a 2007 and NO leak on either of them!!!! Bruiser Stang 03-10-2007, 09:24 PM I have an '07 gt....I have the freakin leak. took it to the dealer, and they said that they "fixed" it by siliconing some seams, and doing something with the cowl....they said they gave mne a new carpet and under padding.... went to pick it up on friday, march 9..... went into the car in the dealers lot, and pressed down in the pass. floorboard area, and ........bingo....wet! this is when I went to pick up the car. So, they kept it, and this is attempt #2. It may have leaked again from the car wash they took it to. Does anybody have info on the New York state lemon laws? Im out a car here for at least another week. They did give me a loaner both times no questions asked. rls82959 03-10-2007, 11:49 PM Nothing yet. 1500 miles. Built 08/06. Purchased 12/06. Buckshot Barry 03-14-2007, 12:56 AM Looks like more 2007 models are starting to appear in other threads, so I'm bringing the poll back to the top. twokidsnosleep 03-14-2007, 02:20 AM '07 GT vert built Aug 06 and leaking like an old rowboat as of Sunday March 11th...3,000 km's on the car. Buckshot Barry 03-20-2007, 12:20 AM The water leak is one of the most talked about topics lately on this board, so BTT red07gt 03-20-2007, 09:34 PM Ihad responded to previous posts regarding "the leak" as being high and dry. I had to open my bigmouth, as lo and behold I now have it. We had 2+ inches of rain the other day and I noticed some slight dampess near the passenger kickplate....not much, but enough to piss me off royally![:@]I don't want to take it to the dealer, so I'm going to try to fix it myself first using the info. provided on some other threads. Looks like the 2007s are continuing the glorious tradition. Car was built in September 2006. wmtheflash 03-20-2007, 09:39 PM 2006 Mustang GT. Zero leaks and I've check multiple times. Here's an interesting video I found on finding vehicle leaks on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAYVTTN1Jqo Bruiser Stang 03-21-2007, 05:15 AM well, after repair number three, I have so far got no water in the vehicle. I hiung four bags of dessicant in the car to remove any residual water from the vehicle. It doesnt smell much at all in the car, and I hope that the car is fixed. Ramp Ford did the repair....It took them a while, but I think that they got it. They went above and beyond for me there. I hope that the water will stay out now, because I love this car. Ford's 800 numbe r was a waste of time....they did nothing for me. What a bunch of fools and jokers...I was even assigned to the "noprtheast Regional" representative named Bob Kendall...totally useless imbecile! If you get this guy in the Horn just hang up on him!!! Really! well, good luck to all mygt500 03-21-2007, 05:18 AM no leaks yet! SkullE404 04-13-2007, 07:49 PM I could have sworn i didnt have a leak but after going thru a car wash (never again) i took off the access door by your feet on the passenger side and put my fingers under the carpet and they came back a little wet. will be calling the dealer on tuesday after the holliday. luckydawg003 04-13-2007, 08:08 PM I just got my 07 Mustang 3 weeks ago on March 23rd. After it rained the other day, I did notice water on my passenger and driver door sills. More water on the passenger side. My car was built 3-9-07. I guess I will have to take it to the dealership on Monday to get fixed. 57Heavy 04-13-2007, 08:18 PM Mine has a build date of 09/06. Haven't seen any leak yet. Only had the car 'bout a month,so I'll be looking. OT- i have the dead battery syndrome. going to report it to the stealership. Hasn't gone completely dead yet. Been turning the shaker off when I park it. 57 Heavy mail906 04-13-2007, 08:43 PM These numbers are huge!!! As of now - 34 out of 197 respondents to the poll have had the leak - that's 17% + As far as Bruiser's comments: ... Ford's 800 numbe r was a waste of time....they did nothing for me. What a bunch of fools and jokers...I was even assigned to the "noprtheast Regional" representative named Bob Kendall...totally useless imbecile! ... This is the real joke. The champagne glasses were clinking in early January when a Ford engineer announced here that Ford would be coming out with a TSB on the problem. But where is it? Ford cannot deny the issue forever - owners today are too smart to let them get away with that. OZ_Tambo 04-15-2007, 08:37 PM No leak on my 06......................but I live in San Diego and keep my puppy in the garage........... spuddogg 04-15-2007, 09:08 PM Build date 05/2006 After ~2 inches of rain today I went out and took a look-see and it was dry as a bone (pulled the panel out as well as checked up in the dash by the glovebox). Came back and said to the wife, 'Well I'll be damned; finally a problem that it actually doesn't have'. americaniron 04-15-2007, 10:15 PM I live on the edge of the great dismal swamp here in NC . We get lots of rain here. I've been checking for it after every heavy rain, since I heard of this. I have been lucky so far. Mine is an 06. Knock on wood. hammeron 04-15-2007, 10:34 PM at this point, i think every single mustang that rolled off the assembly line, is susceptible to the water leak. i have not noted however, any saleen or gt500 owners admitting to having the dreaded leak i am waiting for the tsb and hope to seal this baby myself in the comfort of my own garage wicked95gt 07-27-2007, 01:15 PM 2005 Legend Lime V6, found the "leak" today, passenger side floorboard soaked after heavy rain , car is usually garaged so I havent seen this until now.[:@] 157db 07-27-2007, 03:03 PM The drivers side door says 09/06. I dont know if that means before 9/06 or after 9/06. I poled as leaking after 9/06 Leoleo 07-27-2007, 04:07 PM There is a TSB Here is the link http://home.nc.rr.com/mackowsky/car/tsb07-14-06.pdf Derek245 07-27-2007, 06:02 PM None yet. I bought it in May and it doesnt rain much here in the summer. I'll find out in the winter. Stndbck 07-28-2007, 08:43 AM Mine was built in April '07 and so far so good, knock wood. Its not garaged so we will have to see. Plan on getting a cover before winter. Jokeurmnd 08-16-2007, 06:16 PM I haven't had a problem with mine yet *knock on wood*,but if turns out otherwise at some point i'll let you guys know Rupdog 09-19-2007, 08:35 AM what's the "skipper issues"? haven't heard of this, and can't imagine what it means... PS mine's an 07 GT Premium/leather/stick rupen WaterSoakedLemon05 09-24-2007, 08:31 PM Had MAJOR electrical problems caused by the leak on the passenger side. ABS, TCS, Charging system failure, Radio only worked in park or neutral. Ford told me basically to shove the car up my ass. It only cost me about $12,000 for them to take the piece of junk back. luckydawg003 09-24-2007, 09:57 PM My car was built Feb.07 I have a leak on driver and passenger side. Still need to take it to the dealer to get fixed. Calspecl 01-15-2008, 08:57 PM Sorry if I am jumping on the leak patrol thread as it seams its been around for a while, BUT, my 05 Gt has a pool of water on the passenger side floor. Took the seat out, yanked up the carpet and removed the drain plug in the floor board to drain the pool of water.Thishas not been any issue in the past and I live in seattle where it rain all the %&*) time. Of course my warrenty just expired (38K) on the car. I checked for a TSB, did not see any. I will call the stealership tomorrow and cant wait to hear their reaction. This has been a rude awakening for me to read this thread. Hopefully the past experiancesfrom others will enabe me todo some trouble shooting and resolve the issue. Thanks! Eddie3 01-15-2008, 09:06 PM I dont know, my car has never seen rain. SonicBlue05GT 01-15-2008, 09:13 PM i live in the rainest city in the U.S... Mobile, AL (not Seattle anymore) and my 05 has never leaked. dilysio8 01-15-2008, 09:22 PM no problems w/ my 08 ThumperMX113 01-15-2008, 09:22 PM No problems with my 08 either ... Calspecl 01-15-2008, 09:23 PM I would have said the same thing two week ago. Not a problem and love the car, however, after seeing a pool of water on the floor in the back seat passenger floor board, removing the seat, panels etc... this is my world anymany others as evidenced by many previous threads. This should be a stickynote, although, the search archives did come up with the tons of data to support my pain... Is there a TSB on this issue? Or is this the deaded, warrenty expires and car falls appart? deekum1627 01-15-2008, 10:52 PM i have not problems alanlee112 02-21-2008, 06:38 PM I have the leak. I bought my '05 GT in the fall of '07 and recently I ran my hands under the carpet and I did not have a musty smell and all was dry. However, I took my Mustang in for a different issue and I showed the dealer the TSB for the water leak issue and asked if they would look for the leak. Well, they looked and they found one. They don't have the proper silicon on hand to do the repair so they are waiting for it to arrive. They should have it fixed tomorrow once the silicon shows up. Since they have to have the silicon shipped sounds like not many Mustangs have been to that dealer for that issue. I have a feeling a lot of Mustangs have the issue but people aren't aware of it. I wouldn't be if it wasn't for this site. luckydawg003 02-21-2008, 11:50 PM So since so many people have this leak issue. Why don't we as mustang owners come up with a fix, since Ford won't do it or is to lazy or can't fix it right the first time. Someone should make a how to: for geting some silicone and were to put it. No new car should leak period. This is complete b.s. by Ford. I had a 2000 Eclipse with a sunroof and it never leaked, never leaked in the door sill area, like some members are saying is OK, well its not ok. It will rust eventually. r3velation 02-22-2008, 01:47 AM after a wash, i saw a couple drips of water coming in through my driver side. though i think the rubber insulation might be a little off, so i'll have to give it a check. only like 2-3 drops and it goes right near the speaker, it's kinda odd. alanlee112 02-22-2008, 06:40 AM I think the hardest part about this leak issue is if you have to remove the fender to repair the leak if it's coming in around a weld or something. I doubt the dealer did this in my case and when the weather gets a little bit warmer I'll be testing for this leak again before my warranty is up. Once warranties expire and people find this leak they maybe removing their fenders to fix this issue. Maybe then some photos will be posted on where exacty the water is coming in if the fender has to be removed in order to fix. moburto07GT 02-22-2008, 07:29 AM My build date is 6/07, and as far as i know i do not have a leak. Guess ill need to keep an eye on this. [&:] 7STANG 02-22-2008, 07:38 AM No problems here. alanlee112 02-22-2008, 02:12 PM Dealership just called. They have been great with calling me with updates. However, they have to keep the car longer due to this water leak (Monday will be a week). They said they have to call a Ford hotline or something about this. (didn't know there was such a thing for them) It also sounded like it might have affected something electronically, too, but he kind of mumbled it on the phone and I was still a little taken back with "we have to call Ford hotline about this." But, pretty interesting since I never smelled anything musty when I pulled back the carpet and ran my hand down there. All seemed good - what a surprise. Glad it's still cold out and I'm not dying to drive it, yet. Might as well store the car in their garage instead of mine. RollTide87 02-22-2008, 02:56 PM I have a question to those with leaks. Do you experience any leaks with automated car washes? We had a severe drought last summer and due to the water restrictions, automated car wash was the only option. I have an 07 with no known leaks but it rarely gets driven in the rain but I do take it through car washes. Would this show up any leaks? alanlee112 02-22-2008, 03:34 PM Sorry, I always hand washed mine. I did take it to a "do it yourself" where I blasted it with the power washer but I never noticed anything. I never noticed anything when I used the garden hose, either. I've read that others have taken theirs through car washes and they did notice it. I believe that was someone's final test on this board where they ran it through 2 or 3 times and everything stayed dry. I think that was after that person ended up taking their Mustang to the dealership 2 or 3 times to finally get the issue fixed.[sm=sigh.gif] Beavis 03-09-2008, 09:36 PM add me to the leak list, 2008 GT, build date 11/07, 30 miles on the car r3velation 03-09-2008, 10:05 PM no leaks except for the drip from the mirror on the driver side into my upper speaker area. my first mustang 03-09-2008, 10:30 PM I have a coupe built Feb./05.I have been through many VERY heavy downpours in the last three years(driving and parked)and the car is dry. I tried to get Ford to fix it one time, but they said they couldn't reimmitate it with running a hose of water on the window. So no fix. My car was built Feb. of 07. cdawg 04-29-2008, 10:24 AM No leak that I can detect, I just washed the car (05 vert), and even tried pouring water down the hole behind the battery where the firewall meets the fender. Pulled the access panel, bone dry. Car still smells new. Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones. PullMeOverRed05 04-29-2008, 11:43 AM Leak Fixed! After 5 attempts by the dealer they finally solved it.
