Default Gas Stations that use ethonal mix with their fuel?

Are there any gas stations other than BP that don't use the 10% ethonal mix( sorry if miss spelled ) in thier fuel? Does the Ethonal effect our customtunes? Reason being is I used a differnt gas station other than the normal BP station I use and for the first time I heard my car ping under part throttle. This gas station used a blend of fuel mixed with 10% ethonal. Sorry if I sound confusing [&:]but just curious if I got bad gas or if the Ethonal lowers the octane ratings for some paticular reason.

ethanol is commonly used in many gas stations. I have had no problems with my car pinging and I have used 93-94 Oct from BP, Shell and Sunoco. Not sure why you changing stations would cause this.

Im thinking I just got bad gas, I was in an area that I normaly don't go to and I used a gas station thatwas the only one around off the highway. The station seemed pretty new too[:@]It was a single nozzle pump the had the 3 differnt octane ratings, maybe the person before me used the 87 octane and when I used the 91 octane I got left over fuel in the line from the person before it actually started pumping the 91 octane. I don't know [&:]

It's pretty standard to use ethanol, so I would just make sure you get the one that has the seperate nozzles for 91+ octane.

Everywhere out here has 10% in the gas. Even BP and shell. I think it was federally mandated or whatever.

There is nothing wrong with Ethanol (which comes from grain) and most stations use it as it lowers emissions, decreases chance of fuel freezing in the winter and keeps injectors clean. It also raises the octane level. The down side of Ethanol is that it only has 50 % of the BTU's of gasoline. That means that if your mix is 10 % ethanol, you have 5 % less BTU's to perform work. That means less mileage.

This can be offset by increasing timing to take advantage of the extra octane. Most tuners will do this for you in the high octane mode or you get a custom program. Supercharged/turbocharged applications love Ethanol.
