I installed my X-Charger Hi-Po last Saturday on my 2006 Five Speed Manual Premium Pony Package. Project took 15 hours. I had all the components black powder coated and painted the supercharger. The install went pretty much as planed with only a couple of minor glitches. I am a machinist by trade so I checked everything very carefully before beginning the install. I found the flanges on the air distributor that bolt to the cylinder heads where not very flat and I had to surface grind .030 of an inch to make them clean up and be flat. I reported this to Dave at Explorer Express and he immediately started checking his inventory to see if any others had this problem. Also my Pony is a 2006 model and the mounting bracket for the air box did not fit. Dave checked this out and is making new ones that fit 2006-2007 models and is sending me a new one next week. Dave offers great customer support.

The X-Charger performs great. We have 92 octane fuel here so I put in the Hi-Po+ tune. It runs perfectly. The only compliant is that it seems to have very little to no engine breaking when you get off the throttle. Dave and Doug are looking into this and will be modifying the tune to help elevate this as much as possible. A local tuner I talked to said this is common when adding turbos and superchargers to late model electronic fuel injected cars. The throttle response is absolutely amazing and the boost comes in as needed without any lag or surge. Just nice smooth power! The kit has almost to much stuff. By this I mean even the wiring armor is pre-cut to length. I wound up cutting some of my own so the length matched my wiring perfectly. I recommend to Dave to just put a roll in the kit and let the end user cut it as necessary.

So far the X-Charger is absolutely amazing and I would recommend this kit to anyone that want's to get more good reliable power out of their V6.

I would upload more photos but this site will not allow me to post more then what you see.

Wow, that powder coated finish looks bad ass.   Nice job on the install, I hear Dougs new auto tranny tune is insane on that kit.   When you get a chance, would love to see more pics of that car.

Looks great, and we can use more torch red x-cars :D

I just added the Hipo intake to mine today. Love the way that looks vs. the standard air box

Looking at your mod list I'm amazed how many parts our cars have in common (I'd say about 70% of the list)

I love the black X-Charger! You've got a very nice setup there. Any plans to take it to the track?

The black looks awesome!  I've got a couple of weeks before I install my x-charger, so it's food for thought.  by the way, what prep and paint did you use on the supercharger itself?

It sounds like he bought it directly from EE, since he mentioned the owner Dave.   Here is the web site with the info and pricing:

I've got it bookmarked.
I'm either going to add a blower to my 4.0 or swap it out for a BOSS 302! ;-)

damn, that swap is going to cost a lot. suspension upgrades, rear end swap, gauges would be good as well.

Thanks for the complements everyone.

I do plan on going to the track to do a little drag racing and also autocross. I had the X-Charger professionally painted by Mr.Gs Auto Body in Tacoma Washington. The powder coat for the rest of the parts was done by Ken’s Powder Coating in Spanaway Washington. The kit was purchased directly from Explore Express. If anyone is getting ready to install this kit everything fits well but there are some things to watch for and at request I will E-mail you the list.

Is the iairbox the only difference between the hi-po and California kits?

Can a different airbox be used on the California kit?

The airbox and tune are different. The tune needs to be modified due to the flow characteristics of the Hi-Po airbox. I belive that is the only difference between the two kits. Contact Dave at Explorer Express and he can fill you in on the details.
