I have a 2006 Pony Package. Here are some more good points to ponder. The V6 is nearly 150lbs. lighter then the V8 and the weight distribution is better. With the GT suspension added by the Pony Package this car will out handle a GT any day. Another good point made by someone is moding is a lot of fun. My Pony has tons of mods including an X-Charger supercharger and I am still not into it for as much money as my friends GT and my car outperforms his hands down. I stuck with a single exhaust. I think V6s with duals look like GT wanabees. Just my opinion. As for insurance, I called my agent and the cost of insurance increase for a GT would be $20 a year so that is a none issue for me.

I'm not here to stir crap or anything but you do realize that if you did those mods to a GT you'd be in the high 10's instead of the low 13's right.......just checking it is one thing for a mustang owner to chose a V6 because they love the look and want to save some cash, if thats what you want then the V6 Pony package fits perfectly, but if you're gonna mod the crap out of it like you did then go with the GT because in the long run all you are doing is cheating yourself out of what you could accomplish.

I think he answered you already. And he's still paying less in insurance, and probably gets better gas mileage even with the performance mods.

i can answer question 1 for you.
because the difference in cost between a V6 to GT is a hell of a lot less than a GT to a GT500.
6,000 vs 30-50,000. you could have 2 GT's for the same cost of a GT500 after markup.

Most you guys have the same opinion as I do. I'm in my 50's also and had my share of muscle cars through the years and 10-12 mpg gets tiring with the cost of fuel these days. I like cruise nights/car shows and I get as many people looking at my car as do the GT's. One thing I have noticed when I ask the GT owners about mpg and most say the best they've ever gotten was 16.9 period. Now sure we get down to 16 with just city but I've gotten 28.2 best on a highway. With todays gas problems we might be looking at $3 to $4 a gallon forever. Anyway I really like the Pony grill and had it installed on my car before it left the dealership the first time. I ordered my Mustang new and as I mentioned on an earlier post I couldn't afford the option price. Anyway the grill was what I liked the most on the Pony. And you guys might also agree, aren't those packages killers on the wallet? I like the old days when you ordered each option not packages. But I did good when I ordered mine: Base model w/auto, gauge package and rear spoiler. $21,795 plus $100 for the Pony grill. I know some will moan about the auto but after about 40 years of manuals my left leg needed a break. Anyway it's a great car and a lot of fun.
IMO, most people who ask "why didn't you get a GT?" are thinking mainly about performance differences, and not about price. And secondly, what may not be a significant cost difference to you (between a V6 and GT + insurance + mods + gas) may be significant to others, irregardless if the difference between a GT and GT500 is more.

My students always scoff at my V6, when they ask, I tell them that men who need to compensate for shortcomings in there life often do so with their cars... Thats when the students with the powerful cars shut up...

I'm averaging 33 mpg on the expressway ... can anyone with a GT say the same? I'm happy with my V6 (I could've gotten a GT, but decided against it) .. I just didn't find the need to pay thousands more just to hear a deeper engine rumble, have a little bit more push-into-the-seat feeling, race a second or two faster than the V6, get much lower gas mileage, and pay double for insurance and fuel. But, all the best to happy GT owners - to each their own.
