Most of my friend told me 'The only real Mustang is the V8' version. They were and are still wrong! I am in my 50's and remembering all the Mustangs I saw while growing up in the sixties and seventies, the V6 Pony Package is the Real Deal. The extra speed and gauges is not worth the extra money for cost and insurance. I too get many comments on how good it looks. Pony is the way to go!

Besides all the reasons everyone has listed already, I also had the option of the GT but decided it would be a lot more fun making my V6, MY v6 such as modding it out and other things that I wouldn't be able to do w/ the GT insurance and overall MSRP. I get to have a lot more fun in doing actual things to my V6 that I could only dream of doing w/ the GT. I also think, maybe a stretch, but we, the V6 guys, have a better appreciation for what the classic mustang is and its true essence.

There is a trunk release somewhere on the left driver seat. I was getting in one day with my arm down the seat side and my hand or coat caught something and opened the trunk. I heard the sound and saw the warning on the message center. Unless I hit the button on the key fob at the same time. I don't know, I looked after that and couldn't find anything.
I have a 2006 Pony Package. Here are some more good points to ponder. The V6 is nearly 150lbs. lighter then the V8 and the weight distribution is better. With the GT suspension added by the Pony Package this car will out handle a GT any day. Another good point made by someone is moding is a lot of fun. My Pony has tons of mods including an X-Charger supercharger and I am still not into it for as much money as my friends GT and my car outperforms his hands down. I stuck with a single exhaust. I think V6s with duals look like GT wanabees. Just my opinion. As for insurance, I called my agent and the cost of insurance increase for a GT would be $20 a year so that is a none issue for me.

Interesting on the insurance rate. Although I have Allstate, I used the http://progressivedirect.com web site to get some quotes before committing the Pony to Allstate for pleasure only driving. Good thing too, because Allstate initially wanted $850 every 6 months for the V6 Manual. NO WAY I SAID, as Progressive is $320 every 6 month for 250/500/100 coverage. Anyway, I've been with the same agent for 29 years. Had him pull a credit check on me and the wife. We both score in the 810 range. Seems like Allstate still had some info when I was 18 in the system. Long story short, our new rate for the V6 Pony Package is $226 every six months plus it's 1/3 share of the 250/500 Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury that is $135. So we are looking at around $265 every 6 months for the Mustang drive out.
Allstate doesn't have online changes for current policy holders, but I did revisit Progressive to see what a V8 GT would be with my same quote (driver) information. It went from $320 every 6 months to $433 every 6 months.

I've had my V6 Stampede Edition Mustang for 6 months and not a day of regret buying this pony over the V8. I have a very limited editon FORD Mustang for TX and OK. Good to hear from others excited about their V6 ponies.

are you serious? this i didn't know. so does this mean that all the big brother GT's out there are prancing around because they can get up to 60 mph 2 seconds faster than us V6'ers? not to mention they get worse gas mileage & higher insurance rates, etc. i'm not bothered by arrogant GT drivers cause there will always be a bigger fish.
hey guys,i was just prowling around and came across this.i own a 06gt and i have as much respect for you as my self.before i owned this car i had a 02 v6 and i liked it.i just want you to know that not all gt guys are jerks.if i see you out on the street,i would wave just like a gt and the pony package is the best thing they could put on a v6.
I have pretty much made my '05 into a Pony version over the last 2 years and love it as my 30K miles a year commuter. I would add to the list though that the GT has factory limited slip differential that I wish I had...
I have both a 06 Screaming Yellow Pony Pkg for the wife and my 06 Gray GT for me. I like both of them. Plus for the Pony Pkg better mpg about 3.5 mpg better over all. Better handling and braking. Plus for the GT way faster and sound's way better. Stock or moded ( Hers single Ford racing muffler and mine Ford racing GTAs) I like the leather seats better also in the GT, they just feel better.
I noticed the other day while at the dealer that the GT has a nicer leather interior -- the perforated insert has a better look and a more comfortable feel to it. I've considered swapping my leather interior out for a GT leather -- I believe that the seats themselves are the same, but the cover is different.

Hey yall, new member here, my first post is in the new members section if yall wanna check it out. I too am looking @ getting a Pony Package on my first Mustang. I was thinking of getting it in Vista Blue with racing stripes, but do yall think that Pony Package side tape below the door with the stripes will be overkill? I mean I'm kinda indecisive. But I will say that I LOVE the way the Pony Package looks. It has great styling. I hope to test drive one soon. Any opinions on purchasing mine would be greatly appreciated. It wont be for another 5-6 months, but am anxious for the day when I drive her off the lot.
I bought the 2006 Stampede Edition #293 of 500 as my daily driving car as my Crossfire sleeps in the garage. But now that I was offered a company car ( Dodge Caliber ) I get a chance to mod my Stampede and I like it because I built it to my own taste, style and speed that it can even outrun a stock GT! The money I spent modding my Stampede cost around 7k to make it look good and run faster. It's about the same price now with the GT but I've got the goodies and I have fun modding it! It is my car and there's nobody like it!
Bottom line...I'm happy I bought a V6 because it gave me extra money to play around it with a low maintenance!
You are correct, the leather is an option for the V6, which is what I have -- but the GT leather is different. The V6 is flat while the GT is rolled and perforated on the inserts. Very different look to them.

Blue Stampeed, does your car have a roush charger?
i thought they were only built for the V8??!!??!!
i too have a v6 pony...i love her (Paige)...the only thing that i dont like about it is the comments from friends.
me: guess what...i got a 2006 mustang! friends: yeah!, did you get a GT? me: um, no...(akward silence) friends: why not? me:
the car is plenty powerful, especially with the MRT exhaust...but its just that "GT envy" i actually like the look of the V6 body, the single exhaust, and i love the retro styling... but to have the extra torque and HP.
