I also have 2.5" exhaust with an H-pipe, and tri-y headers. So it will sound a lil different than a stock setup.

i highly reccomend Raptors by Flowtech. they are not extreamly loud but i have had people tell me that my car sounds like a race car plus there is absolutely no resonance. i dont have a sound clip or anything for you to listen to but i think they would be a much better choice than flowmasters.

ok i have a video...the picture quality is really crappy and you cant see much but it sounds good enough that you get an idea for what it sounds like. it kinda sounds like there is some wind noise too so just ignore that lol.

Yeah, tear those out and get you some Ravins 33 series. You can't pay for all the noise tickets you will get. :D

Check out the Magnaflows in their website, here's the direct link to their sound files, scroll down to the Ford section, and you can hear a 1967 Shelby GT 500:

increase the gnarliness sound of that last audio clip and thats real close to what mine sounds like. close to between 40 and 35 seconds left in that clip when it idles real low.

If your asking about my tach it is a Sunpro Super Tach II. I got it from Summit. I don't remember for sure what size it is but I think it's the 2 5/8. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUN%2DCP7911&N=70 0+4294925228+4294839077+4294815748+400191+42947658 15+115&autoview=sku

If you're a little more mature, like to converse with your passenger, and don't want to wake up the neighbors, go with the DynoMax Super Turbos. Very little restriction, a low muffled retro type sound, ZERO cabin resonance, and yet, magically, when you punch it, the announce to the guy in your rear view mirror that yourengine may just not be entirely stock...

I dont have the piece that secures it to the dash. So I'm using a zip tie to hold it. I have no idea where to get that piece either.[:@]

mountain lion ... :-)

the super 40s seem to sound like the normal 40s. just lower (more base). sweet.
The normal ones sound very aggressive though.

Thanks, I'll check that out, it should look pretty good with my white face GT gauges. Can you get the back lighting in a color to match the gauges though?

02-12-2007, 08:19 PM
The bulb is easiily replaced. You would have to check an auto parts store to see if they carry the same bulb but in a different color. I know you can get different brightness bulbs for sure.

Kalli,
What do you have on yours, the super 40's or the normal 40's?

19stang66
02-12-2007, 09:03 PM
Tell us what you have done to your engine. Someone should be able to estimate pretty close. I think all you should need is a tach like mine that goes to 8000 unless you have a drag car.

fast65
02-12-2007, 10:35 PM
Mines far from a drag car. It's a 302 and all it has is headers, a 4-barell carb and a performer 289 intake manifold.

fast65
02-12-2007, 11:03 PM
What do you guys think of exhaust cutouts? Are they worth the money or would they just get me more "disturbing the peace" tickets than I know what to do with?

Kalli,

as far as I know normal flowmaster 40s (no super 40s).
there is no marking or writing on the mufflers. So I'm unable to tell (I didn't buy them).

Maybe the mufflers are mounted the wrong way round so that the writing and label is no on the top (where you can't read).

If anyone knows what to look far I'll be happy to doublecheck.

I'll upload a picture later on if this is a help

fast, if its not balanced i would keep short bursts under 6k. 5500 is probably about right.

i spin mine up to 7k when im romping on it, and have held it at around 6k maybe a little over for at least 5 or 10 minutes without any problems...... but its balanced with forged pistolies and i have a windage tray to keep that oil in the bottom

First, get it dyno'd. You'll see the curve drop off and you'll know the "power redline". As to whether your engine can continually pull those peak RPM's depends on how its built. Quality balance, roller cam and rockers ...?

It has been my experience that the engine will let you know when it is not happy. :D
