Well, after visiting Saleen in October of last year and just last week this year, I've finally ordered my car:
-- Saleen SC281 with:
* Performance cooling package (hey, it gets HOT in Reno in the summer!) * 3.73 rear end * 5 spoke forged wheels/tires * High intensity headlamps * Watts link! * Deletion of Saleen rear wing (just too clunky for my taste) (Why do I have to pay them NOT to paint a wing and drill holes in the trunk lid?) * Lizstick red
I considered going with some silver stripes on the red, but eventually decided against it. Choosing between the red and Beryllium was a tough choice; in the end, the Beryllium was more striking but the red was more handsome-- at least to me.
Hopefully I will be able to pick this car up directly at the Saleen facility in Irvine rather than at a dealer. Current plan is to pick the car up on or about April 4, and I'll post pics when I do...

Sounds really nice... good luck with it... why such long wait?
Congradulations. Sorry to rain on your parade but, Custom paint is going to take a long, long, time, be prepared to have your patience tried many times. The end result will be worth it, if you can get through the long, long, wait, ,seriously long. If you Plan on June or July delivery the wait will be easier, anytime sooner would be overly ambious for Saleen. Best Wishes and practice patience.

Hm. I hope not, 'cause my parents are flying from Abilene, Texas to Irvine that week just to meet me and pick up the car (Dad's a car enthusiast as well, although I think he prefers flying...they'll fly their own plane out there).
Better give them another call. They are only building that limited edition Parnelli Jones and the Extreme models in the Irvine facility. Everything else is being built out of their MI plant.
Good news is they are way more efficient at the custom color thing over there compared to at the Irvine Plant. Seems backwards, Irvine being the HQ and all...
Excellent color choice. Even if it does take longer it'll be worth it!

Thanks, I already know this since I visited the Irvine facility last Thursday (lots of Grabber Orange). Jim said my car would be built at the Troy plant...
ORIGINAL: dramsey 1/4 mile? Are you insane? What if I got a rock chip on the lower part of the body behind the rear wheels? If I want a track car, I'll use the Evo...
Bah! Your Stang will kill that Lancer on the 1320.

Maybe. The Evo MR is pretty quick. But that's immaterial: I don't care if I get rock chips on the Evo, whereas chipping the Saleen paint would cause wailing and rending of garments.
Well, the closest I've come is the road up to Virginia City, off Gieger Grade in Reno. In fact, driving this road is what convinced me to buy the Evo in the first place (Mitsu salesman tossed me the keys and told me to have it back in two hours...there are advantages to being 50...)
I understand there's a new track in Fernley and that the SCCA has meets there; I need to look into this as soon as work slows down.
I hope I'm still "on it" enough to purchase an Evo or "Evo type car" when I'm 50. That's awesome. Congrats.
Like the others have said, be prepared to wait longer than promised for custom paint. The good news is the paint out of Troy has always been better than Irvine.
