Someone on the other forum  said they are notoriously noisey compared to the clutch tipe LS diff, which is allready plenty noisey with turning.

What??  I have one in my car, I've been running it for 10k and it's dead quiet.  I don't see how it could be loud?  There are very few moving parts and there is no slipping/sliding as there is in a clutch type LSD.

Are you sure these guys weren't talking about a Detroit Locker ?  The locker is loud due to the dog clutches.  The truetrac is not.

I’m with CrazyAl mine is dead quiet. I am very happy with mine as the traction seems much more even and controlled compared to the stock unit.

I don't remember the exact price.  I think it was around $400.  I bought it from Summit Racing if that helps.

its a stronger LSD unit that isnt clutch based

drivetrainspecialists.com has them, if your going with that, mise well step up and get a TA rear girdle for ****s and giggles, you will have to buy a forged short block before you open the rear end up agian

you need an install kit to

Yeah, that's it.

The Truetrac is a gear-based Limited slip unit, unlike the crappy OEM "trac loc" which is clutch based.  The truetrac is much stronger than the OEM unit, and is much better at "limiting the slip" compared to the stocker.

How hard is this to install?  Easier than gears?  If it's a pain in the ass like gears then how much for a shop to do it?

I'm guessing you have to pull the axles, duh, but do you have to mess with the gears at all?

The place I had my gears installed at said they would do it for around $85 more than the install. the install on my gears cost me about $450. He told me that I should have installed the LSD at the same time. So an install price would be around $560

The Eaton LSD is also a very good unit. Also Ford Racing has a rear end girdle as well and it does not require relocation of the panhard bar like some others do.

+2 - my bet is the guy who said that doesn't have one on his car... Or like Al said was talking about the completely different detroit locker. A true locker or a spool is really overkill unless your making a straight strip car IMO.

For the record, yes I have the detroit tru trac with moser axels and an LPW low profile girdle and it is quiet as a mouse. The LPW does not require any relocation of anything and fits/looks nice. I have heard mixed reviews regarding the eaton and auburn but not one negative thing from any of the ten guys I know with the detroit tru trac (yeah - I know al too...lol) - thus why it's on my car.

what does the LSD really do?  help you exit turns faster or w/ less slip?  but isnt that what tcs is for?  i know i sound like an idiot but i have a feeling im not the only one question this (alteast i hope so, lol) and are they worth it?
