All

The Meziere electric water pump, is it worth the $300 or so bucks for the HP gain. Is anybody running this in there 05+ Stang? does it really add HP? thanks.

haha indeed, i'm actually looking into the electric water pump myself, dont really see any drawbacks to it, except for a bit of a challenge install i hear...more opinions would be nice.

I heard its only good for about 3-5 h.p. the biggest advantage is it cools the engine down much faster, when racing.

3-5hp thats it! i love the way companies claim big hp gains on the sh!t, to get you to buy it. but when you see it on a dyno, the #'s aren't sh!t!!!!!

The electric water pump is a mixed bag:

One advantage is that if you're drag racing you can set up the electric pump and electric fan to keep cooling your car down even when you've got the engine shut off--that can help you be nice and cool before each run.

As far as HP goes, I have seen Dyno results as high as +8 HP (peak) on an engine with minimal mods.  HOWEVER, if you have UDPs, then adding the water pump gives you essentially nothing.  UDPs already slow down your water pump a lot.  So the change from UDPs to UDPs+Pump is minimal at best.  That is also a bad combo becasue now you're putting more demands on your electrical system thanks to the pump, but you are also diminishing alternator output due to the UDPs.

A disadvantage of the pump aside from the increased electrical draw, is that you have to worry about longevity.  The motors only last so long.  On the other hand, the mechanical water pump is extremely durable.

I would only run the Electric pump for race applications where you wanted to cool between runs.  For other purposes I'd stick with the stock setup.

I believe it helps reduce some weight as well off the nose of the car.So in all your getting a few ponies, better cooling & weight reduction(our cars need it!).I say its worth the 300.00.....

Crazy Al makes a good point about the longevity of the electric pump though!

Hmmm....are you sure the electric pumps are lighter?

I have never weighed any of these pumps so I have no solid data to go by, but I am willing to bet that the Mezire is actually heavier than the OEM pump.  The stock pump is aluminum.  The only steel part on it is the pulley and the shaft, neither of which are particularly heavy--the pulley is actually stamped from sheet metal, so it doesn't weigh much at all.  On the other hand, the electric pump has a big ol' electric motor on it....and motors are heavy thanks to the copper windings.  I think the electric motor weighs more than the pulley on the stock pump.

Also keep in mind that the better cooling is not a 100% of the time thing.  The electric pump is definatley better at idle or when the engine is shut off between heats.  But at higher RPM (road race for example) the OEM pump has better flow.  That being said, there is no doubt the electric pump is better for drag applications.  But for street or road course use?  That's not so clear.

UDP+ Water Pump is good for like 13 RWHP.  Just get some UDP's.

Crazy Al,
Ive never weighed the two of them either.I was told by an individual they were lighter but thinking back I believe that individual was running a steel water pump.....With ours being aluminum I dont think it(Meizre) would be lighter.I therefor retract my earlier post!LOL!

Yeah, I could see the electric pump being lighter on a different motor.  For example the cast iron pump on an old pushrod V8 would probably be heavier than an aluminum-bodied electric.  But on the modular motors the factory pumps are pretty small, and they're aluminum already.

Hi, I have mine installed and you can see it here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2460665/1    I think ALL of the after maket claims are exagerated  to some extent and every combination of mods of these cars gives different results.  I live in Calgary 3500 feet above sea level and just had my car dynoed ( on a Mustang dyno ) on Thurs with all the new mods this winter except the meth system and got 280 RWHP and 287 torque.  I was dissapointed to say the least.  However it's at the track where the real truth will come out.  Seeing as winter is not through here for a while , I will have to wait.  The one problem I am having is finding a place that is KEY ON power to hook up the water pump to that will not effect any other operating system. If anyone has that answer, that would help me.  As far as install goes,  1.5 hours and a new belt if you have UD pulley's installed.
Rob
