Another advantage as I see it for the short-tube headers is initial cost. With the short-tubes, you can buy them separately from the x-pipe and save around $500.00+ dollars initially over the Long-tube setup, which requires the purchase of the entire system all at once ($1,000.00+ dollars). Then after the initial purchase of the short-tubes you can save up the money and add the catted x-pipe to the shorty’s. So your initial cost is approximately half of the long tubes, which makes the upgrade a little easier to swallow. The short-tube system is therefore more modular and flexible, allowing you to mix and match headers and mid/x-pipes as your budget/schedule allows.

I have the JBA S/S Shorties ($300. E-Bay) and the FRPP X-Pipe $139. After reading through all the responses to this thread re: Shorties being useless, I prepared the following statement..............

so shorties will pass emissions in most states?? was planning on long tubes but if they are going to be a problem then I might as well get the shorties...

I just like to tell people I have headers on my car!!

On the side, why are the JBA shortys so much more than the BBK? And why would one get ceramic over bare stainless? Do the one's that are chrome discolor?
For the quote above.
JBA headers use a thicker gauge steel then others. I do not know what the BBKs are, but I asked several distributors independantly who answered the same thing.
i dont know about power but ill update my actualy 1/4 mile time and trap after the long tube install on thursday. the cars going to the track on friday. i ran 105mph with the intake and tune.. we shall see what kind of mph the hookers and o/r x will net us.

Has anyone shown an increase in power or a quicker spool up by switching from stock manifolds to shorty headers on a turbo setup? I'm pretty sure the stock manifolds retain heat better (good for turbo), but wonder if the higher flow of the shorties will make up for that.
