Stock vs. stock, LS2 GTO' run 13.1-13.3 on avg, a 99-04 Mustang GT with 5spd and avg driver runs a 14.0-14.2, now with your mods and your weight advantage, I think the GTO would win, but by only a few tenths, you could probably run a 13.5 or so.  So the lengths you lost by are about right.  Nice runs you had.

Your joking right? he won't hit a mid 13 without a drag radial. The TB, CAI, cat back and ported plenum all together maybe give a max of 10 hp, most of those mods are completly useless on untill he has ported heads and cams. The only things that might help are the tune and 4.10's

They are fast, not quite as quick as a '03 Z28 but close.

The LS1 GTOs will get beat, but a LS2 equipped GTO will show any of the LS1 fbody cars nothing but licence plate with a capable driver.

It weighs a bit more, but 400 horsepower > 320 horspower (not to mention LS2 > LS1

Someone failed to see the sarcasm in comparring a '07 GTO with a '03 Z28.Oh well.

Snakeman I got the sarcasm
And if you want to compare it to an LS1 it would be more like 350>310 (most dyno results stock).  It's got about a 40 HP advantage but the extra weight doesn't help matters.  Stock for stock it should win by a couple tenths at the track.  I do agree though LS2>LS1

I was surprised how bad i beat a 00 z28 m6 from a roll and on a highway ( i'm an a4) i'm also stock and he just a k&n on the highway we went from 60 to like 130 he put an instant car on me but by the time i hit 85 it was lights out I beat him by like 4 cars. Ls2's are pretty impressive up top. I was reluctant to buy one from what everybody was saying on the mustang boards calling them " slow" well trust me these things are far from slow and a good deal at around 30k

I talking almost worthless as in dollars, not horsepower. If you don't believe it go to KBB.

There's a limited # of those cars,so don't be surprised if they hold their value quite well. Yes, the exterior is not the flashiest, but the interior is VERY good.

If I could take the heart and soul (engine and interior) of my GTO and put it in a new Mustang I'd have the perfect car.  Oh well, thanks for not bashing us goats to hard ponymen.  Cheers.

I agree American Muscle is  badass.   I have heard that the LS2 in the GTO responds to mods well and can run 11s on motor alone with bolt ons.

Actually these are 18" AZA Z1's, 8.5" up front with 245's and 9.5" in back with 265's.  I like the look, but I'm still not sure if I would recommend them yet.  Some others have told me the finish starts to come off or flake, but so far so good at around 7,000 miles since putting them on.  The stock GTO rims were so plain it was embarrassing.  These I found on Wheelmax, but the service there was questionable as well.  Where can you get the Stern Wheels?  If these do go south, I want something similar.

You hit the nail on the head when you said LS2, however, the GTO doesn't get to use all that torque due to its design, at least not on the drag.  It is a high performance touring car, not a muscle car per se.  So with its independent rear and high end interior, you can canyon carve all day long (literally) and still be very comfortable.  As you know it was produced by GM's Holden car company in Australia and is a great competitor to cars such as the BMW M3.  Try to take it to the drags and you'll be called for double dribble as you go bouncing down the strip like your tied to a basketball (talking about wheel hop of course).  Guys have overcome these limitations with drag bags and other suspension mods, but it really isn't a great car for 1/4 mile work due to its IRS and hefty physique.  Will GM and Ford guys argue all day long about which car, Mustang or GTO, is superior?  Of course they will.  But, they are arguing apples to oranges in my opinion.  Two great performance cars, but two seperate classes.

Well, since you brought it up, I'm pretty much there already.  Here are most of my mods-
  • Air Flow Research heads
  • F.A.S.T. intake manifold
  • F.A.S.T. fuel inj. rails
  • Kooks long tube headers
  • COMP-CAM
  • Lingenfelter Cold Air Rammer w/K&N filter
  • Hardened Chromoly Push Rods
  • Irridium sparks plugs
  • Borla Cat-Back Exhaust
  • Porterfield Performance Street Race pads
  • Russell S.S. braided brake lines
  • FASTCHIP programmed
  • Hotchkis front and rear sway bars
  • Pedders rear coils, Pedders diff. insert, Castor Adjustable Radius Rod, X Member Mount
  • BFG T/A KD's

A few other things that I can't recall, but that's the major stuff.  And for half the price of that web site!

A 6-speed LS2 GTO and a 6-speed LS1 F-body are fairly close in performance, usually around 13.0 or so stock in the 1/4. GTO may have an advantage, but not a very big one at all.
