With a bit engine modifcation my Paxton Supercharger will supply 680 horsepower to the 289 C-code.

More than I need to get the kids to school in the mornings.

Just wondering if the blower kit had a boost referenced pressure regulator, and if you are running an aftermarket pump now. The stock pump wont push fuel into the carb with 7.5psi inside the box. You dont want it to lean out under boost, that makes holes in things really fast. The 5.0s we put blowers on were all injected, I havent done a box enclosure like that yet. Been thinking about a blow through without the box, maybe for the 71 Mustang, and maybe one on a 400 for the 71 Formula.

Just thinkin about a cammed 4V Cleveland with 8psi being stuffed in it....  wonder how long until it would break stuff.

Looks like a clean install, and it sounds like they are giving you good advice and workmanship.. Its good to see other techs with the right attitudes and a do it right mentality rather than a do it fast mentaility..  right and fast are good though...lol.. but not one at the expense of the other.

Just what exactly are you going to do to the motor that will squeeze out an additional 580 horses to get you to this 680 mark?

...And you do realize that the 80-100 bhp gains advertised by paxton are usually on a built engine right? I think 680hp is a tad bit overly-optimistic.

Just spoke to the tech at Paxton (1 888 9729866).  Yes, over 600 horses is correct!

The next model up - the Novi 1500 - will support 850 horses on a carubeted C-code.  Since I not very mechanical  you can check with Mike for details.

Well I thought it was cool at first.  Then I changed my mind.  The supercharger is only cool if you have the mods to back it up.  You probably have close to 300 horsepower there - that isn't a sorry number but it's nothing to brag about.  When people see that engine they're going to think it's done right because it's obviously pricey.  Get some pics up of your new cam/4bbl/heads

You dont want 600hp for a daily driver or for anything you want to keep nice, and especially not for anything driven by anyone under 25ys old, and some not ever...  Not everyone wants stupid power, stupid being no possible way to use it all and slicks go up in smoke, more power is always better but there are limits..  usually mechanical and physical limits.. 600hp engines find every single weak link behind them. ask how I know..

Even 300hp is okay, especially in something like a Mustang. So what if you arent going to whup on 100% of the cars out there, you can still stomp 95% or so easily. The best part about it is it will drive nice, have a great sound and be fun to cruise or get silly with, and it wont work you to death keeping it running right like a higher HP engine will.. and your chances of breaking things is much less.

I like it, even if its a relatively stock engine with a blower. Its different and apparently well put together. I wonder how many of us on here can handle a 9 second car anyway?  Once you break the 11s, things happen scary fast and most people who have ridden with me on even a low 12 second pass either dont want to do that again ever (ex wife) or are still trying to figure out why they hurt all over the next day..Havent gone 9s yet, but hopefully next year I can get kicked of the track again. There is alot more to it than just driving straight like its an automatic Accord or Jetta...  Big Hp isnt always impressive (unless you are riding in it for the first time) but a quality job with a great outcome is often not what happens when people try to make more power...

No its not what i would do, but he isnt me.. he does what he wants and what he likes, and it looks like its done right. impressive or not, its still his car and its cool.

The centrifugal unit may be rated to 600hp, but you won't even come near that without some additional heavy mods. Besides the paxton, what else is done to the engine now? I agree with 67sally, that thing is badass, but I think you'll be lucky if you see 300-330horses.

Thumin455 I couldn't have said it better myself.

The Paxton supercharger is designed for a stock engine.   It will give plenty of added thrills without the complications/headachs of a heavily modified engine.  As I said, before - 300 hourses will get back and forth to mall in record time!

As for the look of the engine bay... it's what I've always wanted.

yeah, i mean honestly maybe people are jelous or something....but why do u need all this super modified engine if you have the super charger to take up the slack? if he is aiming for the 300hp range....then he just hit it in one fell swoop....whats the problem?

i plan to do something similar eventually.....buy a short block 302 and put it together on a stand in my garage as i get parts then pull the current 302 out and swap it in...of course i will get some aluminum heads and intake and stuff but nothing completely insane....there is no need in a daily driver....how can you expect to pay for gas and tires with a 600hp car every day?

Shifty101East:

Exactly my thought!

Given the platform - a forty year old car, with forty year old technology - a Paxton supercharger takes the Mustang back to its great Shelby heritage.  It's a balance between intergrating new equipment while keeping the character of the car in tact.

Throwing in a monster engine is not my style.  I could have done that for the same mone (or less!).  Soaring thinks I am a "restomod nut".  Not true.  I just want a powerful, tastefully upgraded machine that stays close to its roots and will serve me well for years to come.  And oh yes, of course, I want the WOW factor - something that has not been seen before.

I was fortunate to find one of the best vintage Mustang shops in the world.  This team - with tons of Mustang expertise - has guided the project.  Evey detail - from valve cover screws to the Mighty Demon 575 has been carefully thought out.  It's not how much money you spend, it's how you spend your money.  I'm very lucky to have found these guys.

Thanks for the feeedback... the work continues.

so in the 1 pic of the engine compartment it looks like the export brace is gone. was it removed to make room for the supercharger, or are the shock towers gone as well? I couldn't tell, and was wondering what changes you had made to the suspension. If you said somewhere in the post before, sorry i missed it.
without some type of structural change such as a new crossmember or frame changes, don't the shock towers have a tendency to roll inward over time?
