What do you think is the MOST horse power ever produced by an engine assembly.
An engine assembly is one or more engines hooked together to form One unit.

well whatever it is you won't be able to fit it under your hood

Lumbergh -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 2:24:52 PM)

What kind of engine?  I've seen gas fired turbine engines that produce 17 megawatts(MW) which is about 23,000 hp.  I've seen back up diesel generators that produce a more modest 2 MW, 2,700 hp.  I'm not sure how much horsepower a deisel engine on a train produces, but its probably in the 2,000 to 3,000 hp range.

Went ahead and looked it up.  The most powerful engine produces over 100,000 hp.  You can find out more here: http://www.k4viz.com/12-Cylinder.html

hahahah 100,000 HP at 101.5 RPM's

crank that sucker up to 7k!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw, i have one of these on my kids go-kart

What about a rocket engine.  THe Apollo Rockets put out  160,000,000 horsepower

grruminator78 -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 3:58:14 PM)

how about top fuel dragsters?? http://www.nhra.com/streetlegal/funfacts.html

ZZmustang -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:15:09 PM)

Scott
You win the bronz monkey
160 million Horse power. 7.5 million Lbs of thrust.  21.333 Horse power per Lb of thrust.
The most powerful engine assembly ever made
Saturn 5 rocket had 5,  1.5 million LB. of thrust engines that powered the apolo missions.
350 feet long. One is laying on it's side at Johnson space center in Houston, The exhaust pipes are about 9 feet in Dia.
One of these engines would fit in a 8X10 room and if bolted to a dragster would make around 200 Gs of force. You would be a stain on the back seat of the dragster. 1/4 mile in .003 seconds, after ignition.
No tires required.

HAHA Being a nerd does have its advantages ! And I have seen that sucker she be big!!!

scott_m_mil -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:19:37 PM)

You think that baby's gotta 4 speed?

THUMPIN455 -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:19:54 PM)

Okay what engine runs on Diesel, is started with a small rope, has a stroke of about two feet, a bore of 2 feet, no connecting rods, no crankshaft, no exhaust valves, and only three moving parts other than the single injector?

scott_m_mil -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:28:34 PM)

Is it some sort of rotary engine

THUMPIN455 -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:38:16 PM)

nope.. not rotary. It has a cylical stroke of about 2 feet.. sometimes more depending on the piston.

StangDB -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:38:34 PM)

Michal Jackson?

grruminator78 -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:40:17 PM)

train??

StangDB -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:44:56 PM)

My lawnmower has only one cylinder, no exaust, a carb, and can run 50 mph on diesel. lol
does that count?

scott_m_mil -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:48:11 PM)

I'm still thinking , but a rotary engine does fit that description [:)]

grruminator78 -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 4:52:56 PM)

24000 for the spruce goose http://www.newsregister.com/ss/goose/StaffCoverage/newhome.html
36000 for this truck http://www.shockwavejets.com/shockwave.cfm
700 HP on a bike http://www.gizmag.com/go/3838/
and i found that the saturn V did no less than 180 million http://luni.net/?p=26 http://history.nasa.gov/SP-350/ch-3-4.html

Other than a rotary doesnt technically have a stroke.

-P.

scott_m_mil -> RE: Horse Power (1/24/2007 5:00:45 PM)

All technicallities LOL...Lets see the stroke would be the rotational distance covered and the bore would have to be the with of the housing.
