Okay, here it goes.. i am planing on doing some MAJOR work to my 91 LX 5.0L this summer. I just need some hardcore advice on what i should do. my budget is no more than $9000 and i would like the best bang for the buck. i was planning on trying to find a compleate turn-key engine and putting it in from there. i still dont know weather i should get another 302 and just put like a vortech supercharger in it or a 331/347 and do the same thing. or i could just build off of the existing engine i have and compleatly rebuild it and make it a stroker.. i just dont know, thats where i hope you guys can come in.. would it be cheaper to work from the ground up, or buy a complete engine? And if i dont have enough money for both a 347 plus a supercharger, which would be better, just the 347 or a supercharged 302???? HELP ME GUYS!!!
go with the 351w built bullet proof, then you can charge it or spray it. just remember the suspension will have to be able to handle the motor!!! im going to install a 460 big block in mine all throttle,no blower no bottle!! we did one last summer in my cousins and it went 10.2s in the 1/4 all motor

Its much cheaper to build it. Crate motors are a rip off, ask anybody on here. Go to a reputible engine builder in your area and have them build you something. Ask the builder for suggestions that would work well around your budget. With some of that money you will definately want to consider upgrading the transmission and suspension.
408w ede heads and intake and a 150 shot and ull be left with money to upgrade trans rear and maybe some sup parts! And a well built 408 with a 150 shot is a beast of a motor!!

For $9 grand, put a down payment on a new mustang!
I was in that same situation. I was going to build a 347 stroker and came accross a guy who built one. Spent $9 grand on building the motor (complete top to bottom, intake, thottle body, injectors, MAF, computer, etc). He fell into hard times and sold the motor to me for $4 grand. I never got to build my motor but for that price I could not have came close. Couldn't pass it up.
347 ftl. A turnkey 351 with a nice new trans and everything needed can be installed for less than that, and you'll have plenty left over for aftermarket parts. In addition, you'll have low end torque and a heck of a lot stronger block. Not to mention a good base for much more power down the road
I have a few more questions, if i do the 351 setup, would i have to change my tranny? If so, i would really rather not go that route because i just got done converting it to a stick. It currently has a new T-5 World Class tranny, would that be good enough to handle it? I know i would want to probably run a duel friction clutch or something else aftermarket. Also would i have to change the rear end/ driveshaft for a 351? i have a 3.73 sitting around but just havent put it in yet. and i plan on rebuilding it before this summer so i can just drop the engine in and be good to go. i would also like to have the frame tied, lift bars, strut tower brace, and maybe a 4 point cadge in... **** never mind about the tranny but what about the intake for the 351w? i would like to keep it fuel injected but how hard is it to find fuel delivery systems for the 351?****

A nice T5 will hold up fine for a stock 351, but when you start putting go fast parts on it she's gonna start complaining. The nice thing about everything else is that pretty much everything switches over from a 302. Heads (but with 1/2" bolts...no big deal), any internals, accessories, etc... You need a few key things, (new mounts for one, but) a lower intake (you can get this off of a truck), a distributor (also from a truck), 351 swap specific headers, an accessory relocation bracket, a new bellhousing, and that's more or less it. Jason (VRIstang) wrote up/compiled a great webpage for the stuff, check it out
