Spartan, can you smoke your tires at will with that setup you have listed in your sig without power braking on dry pavement? Thanks

no wolfey.....poor choice of words on my part.....lets see.....spin tire with a loud screeching noise for a long distance, on dry pavement or any other surface, BUT.....it will smoke the tire from a stop, without holding the break if I am starting into a turn. Saw this 5 days ago....supposedly its all stock except for the exhaust that I had put on.

I'm running limited slip posi-traction now, no more independent for me ;-).

No nothing else yet....the "X" is coming sometime soon.....T-Loc also with 3:73s, Larger brakes, larger sway bars and braces, UCA&LCAs, Springs, Shocks & Struts and 18X9 Deep Dish, Chrome Bullits w/265/ 40 / 18's. Also rear louver along with the side louvers, break scoops, hood scoop, and finally a new rear spoiler. Then I will move on to the inside of the car......2, 10" moniters with wireless headphones and seperate DVD players. Leather seats....this is a must have. Billet everything...knobs ect. Complete speaker upgrade it has the shaker 500 plus another 1600 watt amp and sub I had laying around, hell who knows I might throw that 600 watt amp in there too, if I get bored. Why......because I want to and I can given enough time and money, then I will drive it to shows and hopefully win lots of trophies until my son turns 25 and then I will hand the keys to him "IF" he can handle it. Thats the future plans anyway have lots of fun doing yours....

It would seem to me that any reputable muffler shop would be able to configure this, the only lacking part I see for the future of my Stang is: I wont neccessarily go with stainless due to cost. I think an aluminized exhaust will be sufficient with dual flowmasters. Any good shop would be able to balance out the configuration and fab up an H pipe and or an X and should have tack in hangers on the shelf for install. I'm going to check with my "local" dual exhaust shop and see what kind of price they can give me with dual flows, and the knock off brand turbo mufflers all the way back to the tips. When I get some numbers I'll post again what they say...should be interesting to see.

See Cstigger's post with his great pics to see how this would be properly set up, many thanks to him for the posting of pics, as I'm sure this will clear it up for alot of folks. What I'm planning is basically the same set up except I don't want to fund the stainless part, I'd rather spend that money elsewhere, I'll decide on mufflers after a little more research and weigh the price options of aluminized vs. stainless after I visit my local shop. Like I said any reputable shop should know how to set up a balanced dual cat back system with an H or X pipe, most have perfab crossover tubes ( maybe not an X ), Flowmasters, Magnaflows or other similar no-name turbo mufflers, and weld on hangers in stock. It really shouldn't be a huge deal to have this done.....I stress the word "shouldn't"....as if your dealing with an intelligent and experienced fabricator it should be relitivley easy and affordable...I'm guessing in the $200-$250 range...maybe more or less depending?

From what I know theres headers on both sides of the engine to carry out the exhaust. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the each cat connects to the corresponding header. If you cut the Y-Pipe right after each cat you have two pipes coming from the engine. Replace the Y pipe with an H or X and add a new pipe and muffler for the driver's side, and you should be all set.

Yes. With any V style engine 2 headers are required. LOL. Reminds me of a story i had from Georgia. I went up to a mieneke shop while visiting family and asked about my car and a new exhaust system. I asked if i should go duals and if so if i should wait until i get my new headers. Right off the bat the guy looked at me as if i was retarded and asked "is that a V6" i responded yeah why? he then said well i think that they come with headers already on them, right? . I looked at him and left the store without saying another word and bought my self a new audio system instead. And from then on i will never go to a meineke again for anything.

Technically speaking those are exhaust manifolds, completely different than headers. Headers are designed to scavange the exhaust with a balanced system that is basically less restrictive than a factory exhaust manifold by design and usually larger diameter tubes.

Ok, If i understand correctly... Your saying that stock Mustangs don't have headers, they have exhaust manifolds? If so, is that the same on the pony package?

I'm not sure about all the Pony pkgs...but every one I looked at on the lot that was a premium or pony had exhaust manifolds on it, I don't think they come from the factory with short headers or headers at all....anyone else ? Perhaps it is a special pkg that none at my dealer had.

My car smokes the right tire, and all I have is a C&L cai, exhaust, sct tuner, and headers. quote:
ORIGINAL: wolfey2k Tigger, you have a 4.0 automatic that smokes the tires without power braking? Do you still run a stock rear end? Independent slip? Did you add a CAI system and a TUNE before it would do that? Mine won't smoke them just by stomping on the gas like that. I could see doing that with a manual tranny popping the clutch but an automatic? What's the road condition you do it on? Any kind or only on concrete or something like that? Will it do it on all dry road surfaces? I just threw in a cool x pipe cat back true dual exhaust system and a posi-trac' differential. I'm soon to install my new CAI and tune. I expect quite a nice improvement in low end torque which will definatly help break those tires loose at will! I hope ;-). High end power expected too of course. I'd love it if it smokes first and second! Won't do it that often but it will be friggin fun when I want to get on it for S&G's ;-)
