The new Grand Prix has a 5.3 in it? I thought that car had a 3.8 v6. Oh well, good kill.

The GXP has a 303hp 5.3L V8 in it.  Same as the new Impala SS and Monte Carlo SS.

Yea, Ford just has way better techs

5.3 L = 300 HP
4.6 L = 300 HP

The 5.3 is called an LS4.

Yeah, I kinda like how gm is sticking it to the man by staying with those pushrods.  I mean, that 4 DOOR Grand Prix gets BETTER gas mileage than that mustang with the same amound of horsepower and is only about 50 lbs heavier than the mustang COUPE.  seems kind of  messed up to me.  So why does it matter that Ford makes more horsies per liter, when they get worse gas mileage? (sincere question, why do people care so much about that?)

PS, I researched both cars, and man Fords web site sucks, they wouldn't tell me how much the mustang weighed, (curses Al Gore for inventing the internet )

303 hp FWD sedan in the mid 13's?

i thought they were mid to high 14's, with a mid 14 being GREAT?

that's along way off from mid 13's unless im completely mistaken about what these cars can do

My bad, looks like high 13s or flat 14s     http://www.dragtimes.com/Pontiac-Grand-Prix-Timeslip-6161.html

Still respectable for a sedan.

Those cars are no joke.  I ran into one on the street once and that thing could go!  I couldn't get a real race out of him though, I Just remember him zooming by me unprovoked.  When I decided to try and keep up he was well past me.  I was at the bottom of 2nd gear (we had just made a left turn) when he went by so there was no hope for me

Lesson learned: Don't shortshift when you think you have a possible race

I think those GXPs can do pretty well against a bone stock GT.

My GT is bone stock.  He (GXP) was riding my rear going down the entrance ramp, running up to me then backing off several times.  I'm in 3rd gear behind a Dodge Ram Hemi running about 40mph so I can't go any faster.  As we get down to where you can merge onto the interstate the Ram hits the gas and quickly moves into the right lane on the interstate and the GXP darts across to the far left lane.  I nail the gas, staying in the acceleration lane, passing both the Dodge and the GXP.  By 110, just after shifting to 4th, I'm way ahead of the Dodge and probably 4 cars on the GXP.  I let off and the Pontiac comes up beside me, shakes his head, mouths something like "had to try", gives me a thumbs up then goes on past.  The Dodge never catches back up to us.  Maybe I've just got a strong running 3v.

I'm sure he meant New Edge, in which case based on what I've heard, they'd do well in a roll and probably win.
Where as a dig would be quite close.

believe me i watched an impala SS at track maybe 5-6 times ran and couldn't see mid 14s. she was auto and doing nothing but spinning off the line.. they might give 05+ stangs very hard time from a roll, from a dig, i can't see one of those beating 05+ stangs (even autos.)

LS4? They need to kick that engine out of the LS family. Doesn't make sense for a LS1-350hp LS2 -400hp LS4 300HP LS6 - 405Hp LS7 500hp. Which does not belong?
