Does anyone have or know where I can get a good, high resolution photo of a Saleen with the Beryllium paint? Google Images has a single shot of an S7, but that's all I could find on my own...

Come to think of it, any good high res shots of any Saleen custom color would be appreciated.

Saleen has spent BIG bucks in paint booths for painting their custom colors. You really need to see one in person to really see the beauty.

OK, I did go back to Irvine to look at the PJ and paint colors. BTW, if you're planning on dropping $60K+ on a new Saleen, you really should visit the Irvine facility. Jim Cross will give you test drives of anything you want, show you around the factory, and in general make it well worth the airline ticket.

Anyway, it seems that no woman in the world likes this car:

They just don't. It's the orange or something. Even the nice female Saleen personnel at the store would hem and haw when asked directly about it. One explained that she was too young to have the "connection" with Parnelli's 1970s exploits.

Still, I rather did like it. I drove this one:

I'm told this is the car you read about in this month's Motor Trend. Not the same model...the actual same car. How cool is that?

Now I know what they mean by "throttle response". I drove the SC281, then the PJ, then the 281 again. The PJ has incredible throttle response and a stronger lower end than the SC281. And the sound track is everything you ever dreamed about in 5th grade study hall. Ask Jim about the minivan driver I educated...

The SC281 is noticeably stronger when accelerating from highway speeds.

Due to Wife Doesn't Like Grabber Orange Syndrome™, I'll probably wind up with one of these:

Yes, that's Lizstick Red, and yes, it costs an absurd amount of money. But for those asking what Saleen does when they custom paint a car, allow me to present for the first time anywhere an in-progress view of the car being prepared for Steve Saleen's daughter, with a unique pinkish hue:

Yes, custom painted cars do get torn down that much. They paint everything, even the freaking bumper supports.

Wow - thanks for that picture   I always suspected as such - thanks for the proof!

I feel qualified to explain the mystery of the "Wife Doesn't Like Grabber Orange Syndrome™". It's not that we don't *like* GO, it's that we don't necessarily want to *drive* it. I mean, I love the PJ (very muscle-car retro!), but orange is about the most masculine color for a car there is. I have a simple solution for you -- buy a PJ for you and the red one for her.   I personally want the pink one!

I appreciate that, but with four Mustangs, you're not exactly representative of the distaff sex, now are you? Anyway, I'm the car nut in the family; wife just puts up with it. She has a 2000 New Beetle in bright blue she likes and refuses to replace until it dies. At least she can knock out C++ and Java code like nobody's business.

When I took a tour of the Irvine facility in October, Saleen's Jim Cross told me that the engine and interior are completely removed for cars receiving custom paint jobs. Apparently most of the custom paints start with a silver base coat, and the actual color is mixed in with clear coat.

That's kinda right. A lot of custom jobs start with a silver or gold base coat, then a translucent color coat (ie candy apple) then a regular clear. The big problem with candy type paint jobs (and many custom colors) is repair, should it ever be needed. With a candy color, you cannot blend new color into the old, as it will cause a dark spot. The only choice is a full repaint.

Sorry, no. In going over my collection of Saleen photos made last week and last October, the only custom paint colors I have are Speedlab Yellow, Rainbow (sent to me by another forum member), Liztick Red, and Beryllium (although the last is of poor quality). I know what the next question will be so I might as well post 'em here:
