Default 06 GT 5speed vs. 06 GT Auto Stock for Stock

Not that exciting of a race but it was a little highway fun so I figured I would write about it. We're both stock, he's auto. We were coming home from work and saw eachother on the road, how convenient.

We were going about 65 and I let him go first. Soon as I heard him go I downshifted to third and raced to about 85. When we shut down I had about a length on him. Didn't realize I would have beat him by that much. I guess the stock auto tune is really bad .

Auto's shift at lower RPM's than the stick.
Auto's have less HP due to parasitic loss.
Auto's weigh more.

What's so hard to believe [&:]

Good race, the automatic's lossis expected. They have both got the same tune.

Its a proven fact that manuals are a bit faster than the auto, stock anyway. If you allow the auto to change the shift points/higher and raise the rev limiter a bit the outcome will be way closer, the auto may even win a couple. You have control over the manual whereas the auto is set to shift earlier and a bit sloppy from the factory. Those aretwoof many reasons the auto's are usually slower...by .2-.3 in the 1/4.

True, but it doesnt yield better times than stock, now if you are talking a manual valve body etc, etc, then stock is out the window.

Spin > Bog
auto doesn't rev up off the line so i say he might have gotten just a lil' bog.. i drive 97 LT1 auto and sometimes i don't spin too but it doesn't bog. if you rev up and the not spin, yeah i agree, it bogs.. and also, i always bog my car on perpuse off the line and cut 1.9x 60' that is the way i launch.. rev to 3k rpm, dump the clutch, once the car jumps, i floor it and look at the time boar and see i cut 1.9x 60' and i have cut 4 times 1.9x 60' and countless times 2.0 60' this way and i will probably cut 1.8x 60' on stock tires with this way!
