View Full Version : hp potential
alfromcal846 01-10-2007, 03:29 AM hey svt owners. just wondering if you guys knew how much power can the 03 04 cobra engine hold? what about boost? im asking this because ive seen them on the net and ebay with upwards of 550-600 and they still have potential?. thanks for the responses.
goldeneagle_10 01-10-2007, 04:00 AM Theres a couple of guys over at svtperformance with 2.8L KB's putting down 700-800 rwhp. Dont know how long they can last on that, but they can hold that for a little while or pretty long depending on how you drove it and how much you stayed in the boost all the time.
spray175 01-11-2007, 03:00 AM 25lbs of boost is pushing a stock engine. So is 800rwhp but I guess it depends on how much you drive it. Its definately possible.
PWORLDSTANG 01-11-2007, 03:01 AM Not sure about PSI, but I don't see a lot of people pushing over 700+.
MuscleOwnzRice 01-11-2007, 02:03 PM search it, but the stock motor is capable of 1000hp+ if maintained correctly
italia18 01-11-2007, 03:50 PM damnn, even with the iron block??

Thats correct, not many people in terminators will see that. The KB and Whipple will get you there. Twin Turbo will as well. But for how long they last on the stock block over 700 rwhp... well, thats kinda pushing it.

I disagree with that strongly. What would you consider maintaining correctly?
bransdaman78 01-14-2007, 03:17 AM yes thats the usual internet BS... cobras are good to around 600rwhp somewhat safely.. over that its a risk
MuscleOwnzRice 01-14-2007, 03:51 AM come on read it right, he didnt ask for safety he asked potential, safely dowdwards of 600whp but they are capable of that. Sodont smash until you got your facts right
spray175 01-14-2007, 07:09 PM How many 1000hp cobras do you know of on the stock block? Please explain howyour\ correctly maintaing this 1000hp beast.
88gtboy 01-15-2007, 05:51 AM what makes the 03-04 internals so much better than the pre 03s? pistons and rods? im still wondering how much my 96 will hold
italia18 01-15-2007, 05:51 PM has something to do with the heads and whatever. See the topics about the horsepower difference from94-02 cobras to 03-04 cobras.
I would think that an aluminum block (which 94-98 cobras have i believe) could hold more than an iron block..
..but I dont know an overwhelming lot on this subject so someone please correct me if I'm talking out of my @$$.
Mr_Cobra 01-15-2007, 10:01 PM The 03/04 cobras have forged internals
midnightsnake83 01-16-2007, 12:55 PM question! If somebody were to make a documentary or a movie about muscle cars (Mustangs and other fast fords) completely destroying so-called "supd-up" ricers...would you go see it? more of a documentary then a movie with a story line.
MuscleOwnzRice 01-16-2007, 02:21 PM by maintaining correctly i mean checking seals, timing, and all the details everytime. Of course its not common and is HARD to maintain but its possible. Now im not recommending it but they are capable of it. Now you may crack the block on that run for the 1000hp but im saying potential not safety. Safely i would say start building the internals around 600whp
italia18 01-16-2007, 02:23 PM I'd start a new topic for that quesiton.
I wouldnt see it if it was a bunch of ignorant kids bashing every car made in japan. There are PLENTY of finely tuned imports that blow the doors off of mustangs and any kind of muscle car. Its ignorant to think otherwise.
But if it respected the good imports, and trashed on the stock hondas and eclipses etc with a NYC lightshow, an airplane wing on the back, and more stickers than a nascar, then yeah I'd see it.
baxsom 01-16-2007, 02:55 PM ecpecially sincetheturbo eclipse put down 225 hp at only 7psi of boost,
with only a few thousand into it they can do 400whp easy
many of stock GT's have been very suprised by these "ricers"
how to tell the difference
stock paint, no body kit, very loud high pitched whoosh whenever the clutch is pushed it
and an exhaust that sounds like a V8
before i sold it my turbo eclipse dynoed at 280whp
too bad it still wasnt a match for my buddyes 02 camaro SS you just cant keep up with 400whp
but the money was needed to restore my 68 stang so bye bye
MuscleOwnzRice 01-16-2007, 03:16 PM reliability is an issue with these "imports" when you get into higher hp. Not to say they are alot less reliable than domestics im just going off of personal experience. A guy at our pro shop has a turbo eclipse with a 2.4 or 2.5 (cant remember) stroker engine in it (its a gsx) and it runs 427rwhp but he has had to service the internals more than i can count. Hes blown gasket valves, pistons, and plenty of other things. I was into imports for a while but then saw american cars, you dont hear much of car owners switching to imports
italia18 01-16-2007, 06:06 PM eclipses should be the least of your worries. Silvias, Supras, WRX,etc.. Only problem with the eclipses your referring to is that they crank walk after abotu 100k miles. They guy who had the car didnt know how to properly tune or drive, same with any mustang.
those 06's eclipses I'd watch out for, the 6 cyl MIVEC engine is a WICKID platform to build off of.
also the supra block is one of the only stock blocks known to hold over 1200hp to the crank.
They can defenitely hold their own when it coems to high horsepower.
My buddy has a green 91 GST that runs 11.2 500+ hp never had to change out a damn thing.

but anyway, if we continue this we should open a new topic.
Blownsvt 01-16-2007, 09:12 PM that green is hidious. lol I thought the stock turbo in the eclipse spiked at aorund 12 pounds or so not 7.

midnightsnake83 01-19-2007, 02:27 PM I need help with valve springs. Whats the difference between High Lift Performance and Race Valve Springs? Im just getting rough figures together right now so quality far exceeds price. The HLP sprins are running about $400 and the Race springs are about half that. Thanks for any help.
italia18 01-19-2007, 07:09 PM start a new topic
