FUNNY TIRE WEAR???

I have mastercraft 285/40/17s on 17x10.5 FR500s. Since I got them, I have noticed the tires wear more in the center of the tire. I first thought they were overinflated. I have been driving around with 25 lb of air in them and they still continue to wear more in the center. I am about to buy new 315s, but If i'm doing something wrong I'd like to know so this doesn't happen again. Any input appreciated... The only thing I can think of is over inflation like you said. Or excessive burnouts. LOL [sm=burnout.gif] Not sure really.

From your picture I see you have a cobra with indendent suspension. That by itself can/will cause that type of wear especially if you do not or cannot rotate. It is possible that your camber settings are off. Before changing tires I would make sure your suspension is aligned and set properly. At 25psi, your tires are actually underinflated.

It is a GT with a standard 8.8 straight axle. It just has a cobra front bumper, hood. I only lowered the psi to 25lb after seeing this type of wear. I thought I may be able to get an extra few miles out of them if I put more of the wear on the outsides of the tires by underinflating them.

Thats typical rear tire wear on most cars, even FWD. The front tires usually wear more on the outer edges and the rear wear more in the middle. Thats why you rotate tires, but obviously you cant (unless theyre the same size all the way around). -P.

Yea, that is the problem with not rotating tires and doing alot of burnouts.... and dont say you dont light em up, i can see the scrapes in the tread that give it away. Also... stop buying such crap tires... thats another part of the problem

Please dont try to **** me... i was a tire salesman for new england's largest tire retailer.

I am not trying to "fool" anyone into thinking I have your high dollar tires. I gave $130 bucks a piece for them... If you can find anywhere in my post where I once said that I had an expensive tire I will straight up kiss your ass.. I guess there is good reason why you was a tire salesman.. your sure not a very dam good interpreter I usually try to keep my cool.. this is a dam internet forum, I asked for advice and you came off negative talking the first post. When did I ever post anything about MY tires? huh... I simply stated that you should buy a better tire... YOU are the one who mentioned spending 700+ on yokohama's. and as far as why I was a tire salseman... lets see... I was 20 years old and making 53,000 a year... THATS why i brag about it but now im a technician at a dealership...

You just need to read Mr. Adder People like you are entirely too judgemental and negative on this forum. This is a place to discuss things about mustangs, ask questions, get answers, and give answers. You could have simply said, "I have had experience with somewhat better grade tires and never gotton that type or wear, maybe you should consider that." Instead this wound up being a topic about how you make $53,000 as a tire salesman. Not a tire shop owner... a behind-the-counter tire salesman. Thats a pretty good junk of change Mr. Adder, especially to be earned by leaning on a counter and talking about you high and mighty tires, and at 20 years old at that. Blah, I manage a Goodyear store, granted tire sales are only about 25% of our sales, service work is the other 75% Im lucky to break 42k. Time for a raise!

We had special bonuses for selling certain tires, and got commission on wheel sales. My best monthly bonus check was $1200... that was wheel, tire, and service sales on top of my hourly+business commission... I kinda wish I was still working there!

So... AdderMk, can you read what I actually said now that it is in big bold font? No hard feelings, I just hate when people twist my words around. You have actually convinced me to drop out of the Radiology program and sell tires for a living, there is better money it tires than X-rays[:D]
