lots of things could give a slight advantage...if the slightly light Z had a 150lb driver and the SS had a 350lb driver, there would be more difference, but that is true of all models.

My car is a "stripper" but as you can see by my ETs it's not anything special.

As a former owner of an 01 ss A4 I can tell you for a fact that the SS hood is useless other then looking good. The air inlet is in the center of the hood and makes 180° turn back to the fornt then another 180° turn to the air box. So it makes a big circle and the has about a 1" gap between the outlet and the air box. It's totally useless.

Oh and the Z28 A4 is just as fast and there are many Z28 and SS A4 Camaros with a lid and Cat back running 13.1-13.3. I haven't seen the 6 speed being much of andvantage at all at the drag strip.

A 6-speed LS1 F-body can run 12.9, usually 13.1-13.3. An auto will run 13.2-13.5. That's not a huge margin but it is there.
I do concur with lid and catback A4 cars running 13.1-13.3. My g/f's first Camaro was an auto with 2.73 gears and she ran 13.36 completely stock (better 60 ft than me). If she'd kept it and added a lid and catback I'm sure she could've lopped off 2 tenths.

And to answer the Question about Camaro vs Mustang: Yes, Camaro will beat........I mean SPANK the Mustang!!!

Also just to show you.  If we(Camaro) can beat a Ford GT-40, what makes you think it cant beat a Mustang!!  Take a look!!!

I think the topic at hand deals with factory stock cars, not ones that have had power adders installed or whatever. We all know what turbochargers can do.

First the dude talking is a moron " He just got shnapped real quick"..yah. Second, why dont we go find a cobra with 1000+ HP and put it up against a z06 and watch it rape the Z06..really shows much. No doubt stock for stock Camaro will own any stang before the new edge and will most likely beat the new edge. However, I dont see many stock camaros running even close to the times that have been talked about..then again I live in ricer central so I rarely ever see a camaro running around and the ones I do see are all beat up.

The SS hood doesn't really work. the Ram Air doesn't do any ramming, and it's more of just there for looks. but it does look good : ). and all 98-02 Z28 and SS's had LS1s, all to the same tune I beleive? rear gear ratios were a bit different, not sure on the specs, but the SS has a more go-fast gearing.

ok for one....there is no such thing as a 2004 camaro. im a camaro guy so i thought i would clear some things up after reading all of these posts. 1993 z28s and trans ams had the 275hp LT1----1994-1997 z28s and T/As had the 285hp LT1-----now im not positive about the T/A but i know for sure that 1996 and 1997 were the only LT1 SS camaros and they were rated at 305hp------now 1998 to 2002 z28s and T/As had the LS1 which is rated at 305hp----and the SS ....well for 1998 to 2001 they were rated at 320hp and 2002 they were rated at 345hp-----------now i have a 99SS m6 and stock with just a SLP cat back it made 325rwhp and 338rwtq. so you figure it out.....the LT1 and the LS1 were always underrated from the factory. i know two guys that have LS1s one is in a 2000SS and the other is in a base 99corvette rated at 350hp....the SS put more power down to the wheels than the vette. call it a freak or whatever but they are under rated alot. and i have ran a 94 cobra, 99 cobra, 40th anniversary GT and a 2005 GT and they have all got spanked. i have yet to find a stock 03 cobra with the 390hp charged motor to see how i compare with just my cat back.

Wow, finially. We got 2 GM owners who know what they're talking about......

Just a couple questions.

1. Are both of you retarded?
2. Can you read dates?
3. Do you really think that you've told us anything that we do not know?

As Ride of The Month said best:

I notice that you decided not to answer the final question about pointing out things that we already knew. Had you actually paid attention to most of the posts here, you would have realized that nearly everyone here knows what the deal is with the thread at hand. There are plenty of respectable well mannered *excuse 98LS1 on these grounds* who know more about the GM powered F-Bodies to present us the facts on everything we need to know without the two of you joining and posting some repeat information.

I understand what happened here to make you two jump in so quickly. You either caught wind of this thread in another forum and automatically though, "Mustang owners are retarded, so let's go straighten them out." Or you googled/yahoo'd some threads so that you could find somtehing to do, not that there is anything wrong with that, but you elected not to read the thread before firing off some random information that had been stated plenty of times before.

I'm not bashing you, I'm just trying to make you aware of the fact that there are plenty of Smart GM guys here, let me rephrase; there are plenty of GM guys here that help newbies out with misinformation on the forums.

And once again, as has been stated over and over. LS1 > 4.6 - Terminator

last time out to the track, there was a nice SS (i dont think that it was an 04..sorry ) lined up to run me, but someone got out of line..he was right around the same times as i was...it would have made for good video.  also, it would have proven, amazingly, that a car with an LS1 can lose (he was a tenth or so slower than me)...instead, i ended up running a 16 second impreza...

Ouch. That had to be embarrassing to lose to an Impreza.

I guess it's a good thing you didn't get a video though, cause nobody wanted to watch a couple of 17 second cars go at it when there are faster Impreza's out there to enjoy.
