well a SS or Z being a 2000 or 2002, which ever year or model you want to pick, it also depends on how much someone constantly beating the sh*t out of it at the track and street . I can have my 05 GT and race a 2002 SS that someone didn't care about and beat him off the dig or at higher speeds, depends on a lot of factors.

SS is a z28 with a fancy hood
even if there is a 100000 mile ls1 that has just had oil changes, no tranny flush, plugs wires etc, and he cant take an s197, he should give his car away sorry, thats the way it goes

an SS has the LS1 engine in it and will probably beat a stock '05 GT 90% of the time. Now through in a tune and CAI possibly alittle more and you could prob. hang in there or even win.
the Z28 has the LT1 engine which only runs a 14.0 ET.
I think the 98-02 Camaros all had the same LS1, I thought the SS had different exhausts and tune but after reading some links looks like the SS package was just a dress up. I ran even with one till he backed off, maybe he didnt want to push it, they are strong cars though.
All 98 and up camaros and trans am's all had the LS1.

First of all an SS is not a Z28 w/ a diff hood.

the SS has a hood scoupe and some garbage SLP exhaust on it, there is no differnce, they all used the LS1 and in 01 they all used an LS6 intake

Your dumb, all 1998+ V8 Camaro/TA's had LS1's dropped in.
I think the 35th anniversary maro is one of the best looking cars I have seen driving around.
I always find these threads amusing. As long as you enjoy your car and he enjoys his car, does it matter who is quicker by several tenths of a second? The sun will still come up tomorrow.

I raced a 2000 or so SS on the highway, both doing 65 and dropped the hammer, we basically ran dead even till i starting edging him around 110 then he dropped off, but I might have been in trouble if he had held on. Camaros are tough, especially the last SS models.
i seriously call BS to this that you having edge on an LS1 at 110mph.. thats where they pull like a b*tch.. everyone knows it.. (unless the driver somehow sucked.) also SS models are EXCATLY the same as Z28s.. NO performance difference..
Hmmmm...call me a liar but im pretty sure the SS's(prior to 2001, so it makes a big difference in the year) have a LS6 intake manifold, which would DEFINETLY give it more power than the LS1 intake on the Z28, as i recall its about 25hp.

You are crazy as hell if you think a stock s197 GT will run with a stock LS1 from a roll. From a dig is where it would be even remotely a "drivers race." even then, if the LS1 has even an averaghe driver, it will ball that GT.
Drivers race my ass. My good friend has a lid only 2k2 z28 (same motor as an SS, for those hwo dont know) and we ran a intake/catback GT 5 speed from a roll a few months back like 4 times. He got the buslengths every single time from a 50 kick, 30 kick, 60 kick, and 20 kick.
Most of you guys are cool, but dont be ignorant. if a GT is running a low 13.3, an LS1 is running a 12.8 that same day with the same driver.
I'd say it would be the Camaro. And whatever idiot said the ss was the only one that had a ls1 in it, is just that, an idiot. The 01-02 Camaros had the ls6 intake installed, I wouldnt say 25hp, the average is 10-15hp. The 98 had the largest cam in it, but the crappiest computer. I havent had a chance to take my car to the track, but without the nitrous I should be in the low-mid 12s. 98 and up Camaro would win, 93-97 f-body it would be the stang.

BUT....................................................WE ALL KNOW ITS ALL ABOUT THE DRIVER, SO IF YOU CAN DRIVE AND HE ISN'T THE GREATEST, THEN YOU'LL TAKE HIM!
What are you smokin
Camaro(LS1) 350 Crank HP ----- S197 GT(05+) 315 Crank HP Camaro 5.something () ----- S197 GT 4.9 LS1 1/4 12.8(Avg. is 13.5) ----- S197 GT 13.2 (Average mid-high 13's) LS1 Curb weight ~3575 LBS----- S197 GT ~3480 LBS.(That seems a little low, but I dunno, that is what GooG is saying...)
Get yer facts right mang
It is definately a Drivers Race, can't say that about the new edges.
Hey K-town, your quoting The Ford Mustang GT TV commercial 0-60 time. That's worse than mag racing....lol
That 4.9 0-60 time seems awlful quick to me. Must have been Evan driving.

LOL. Dont talk about things you dont know newb. 98+ Fbods had the LS1. 01-02 fbods had LS1 with LS6 intake. SS is an appearance package. LS1 will always beat a 05+ GT unless the fbod driver completely sucks balls. An auto fbod will lose to a 5spd GT only if the GT is being driven by Evan. I love the new GT's, but stock for stock the LS1 is faster. I have no doubt that on the street stock GT's have taken LS1's, but iv never seen it happen at the track.
