On my way to work!!!
It was cool, it made my morning! The set of lights where I always race from were up ahead of me when this 96 Corvette 6sp with a louddddddddd ass exhaust and huge ass wheels (had to be 18's) with a respectable looking spoiler pulls up, it had a dealer plate & writing on the corner of the windshield..
Here I am, thinking ahhhh I wish I could race this guy, but it's got dealer plates...yadda yadda its someone test driving it...and bam! The light turned green and we take off at normal driving speed, dropping it into 2nd he takes off on me, I mashed it into 2nd and went from a couple feet behind his bumper, all the way to his front bumper by 3rd, shifted into 3rd and started pulling him at a quick rate and we both shut down...
Anyways, he's a big guy, all smiles and laughing, we pull up to the next set of lights and he does the Didn't expect that! I asked him if he knows what's done to the vette, he said CAI, headers & Corsa (sp...) exhaust. I asked him where he was headed, he said off to his dealership, I said so wait, the owner is out beating on the nice cars on the lot?? He crakced up laughing and said next time he will bring something faster. LOL
Well, that made my morning! It was fun...and I was expecting to have my ass handed to me!!

A vette is entirely dependent on what year it is, whats under the hood, and who is driving it. I enjoy showing taillights to them as much as anything else.

That's very true, I'm going to figure it was the LT1 and not the LT4. I have enough power STOCK to beat a M6 LT1 Z28 or TA, and with my mods I figured I'd be able to atleast hang with a LT1 Corvette with 300hp.

My dad has an 85 Vette with the TPI 350 and the 4+3 manual transmission. We ran it at the strip with a best run of 14.7 in the quarter. My best in my Mustang before the gears and on crappy tires was 14.6.

Nah. That is about what they are supposed to run. You have to remember it is an 18 year old car too. We only ran it about 8 times total and all in one day so I'm sure on a cooler day it would have run a little faster but the TPI 350 isn't the most powerful engine around. 230hp, 330 lb-ft for an '85.

you also have to remember, you are comparing the high end model of mustang, being a gt or cobra, to the baseline model vettes. if ur talking about that year range, drag a zr1, or if its newer, a zo6. i dont think theres a street pony on this forum that can take a callaway zr1.

nah, gt definitely isn't a high end model. And who cares anyways? A car is a car. I don't compare highend to low end. They're all the same to me. You either spend money from the factory to have it fast, or you spend money on it after the factory to make it fast. Either way is just personaly preference. Anyways though, the older model vettes definitely weren't that fast at all. The C5 is where they made their biggest appearance. I find it very possible for you to have taken the ls1. Good job yanking on that CHEVY.

In '96 there were no ZR-1's. When comparing a Mustang to a Corvette I don't think it is possible to say a baseline Corvette because a baseline corvette is atleast 10k more than a cobra.
Ok, let's clear up some mis-information. I'm gonna say you got lucky. EVERY '96 6spd Corvette, was an LT4. They are high 12/low 13s cars. With mods, in good conditions, mid 12s would not be impossible if you had traction.

my funnest run was with my friend joe in his dodge stealth. we were driving in to the parking lot where every one goes to meet up and this white corvette pulls up and looks at us and sorta smurks. it was a white lt-4. my friend ask him if he wants to race and he said dude its a vette are you kidding. then my friend tells him so you want me to spot you like 4 or 5 car lenths then. the guy gets mad and says allright i will race you. so we go to our spot where we run and they line up and my friend smokes him by like 5 cars. he was so devistated and just to see his ego go to nothing was great.

Hey Adam. That is exactly the kinda guy I like to embarrass. If he is driving a Vette, Viper, Supra, Honda CBR, GT, LS1 or even a riced out honda with a fart can. They think they have me covered because the paint on my car isnt nice even in Beruit or some slum in central America. If you dont listen to it, you have no clue.
I love doing that.
Beating a C4 Vette, well not so tough. A C5, you are doing something right. I have a neat little video of my beat up old Bird runnin a nice pretty C4 Vette. It looks like he is pullin a trailer I leave him so bad. But a friend of mines ZO6 is only a few cars behind me when we race. Oh man does that video irritate him. Seeing my beater smoke his pretty ZO6!
LT1 C4s are dead even with (or even ahead of) LS1 Vettes for a good 30-40mph, simply because of the torque curve. LT1 is more of a bottom end motor. Sure the LS1 has way better mid and high, but from a light, an LT1, or even an L98 could keep up with an LS1 to a certain point. And the LT4 powered cars are just as quick in almost every aspect as the LS1. I've heard of a guy getting a 12.7 out of his bone stock Grand Sport Coupe.
