Default 3.8 and 3.9?

This is probably a stupid question, but howcan you tell if your stang is a 3.9 or a 3.8? Im pretty sure mine is a 3.8 but never really checked.
What is the difference?

If I'm not mistaken, all v6s from 04 were 3.9L?

what year is yours
if its a 04 then u may have a 3.9 but if its not then u dont

and their should be a sticker or a plate either on the under side of the hood, or fenders or fire wall that tells the specs of the motor

Early 04's were 3.8's. Then Ford ran out of 3.8's and didn't want to make anymore, since they were moving to the 4.0 cologne next year, so they took the 3.9's they used in the Windstars and put them in the remaining Mustangs.

i think they are the same exact engines at the 3.8L but there is an extra bar or something to make the .1L

What do you mean extra bar? It is the same exact engine, the stroke is just a tad longer. It's technically a 3.85 liter, but 3.9 looks better.

ford wanted to get away from the "bad headgasket rep" of th e3.8 (fixed mid 96 BTW) so they slightly stroked it and put it as 3.9

all stuff will work with the split ports except for the tuners
