Default Advice needed for minor "scratches"- PLEASE HELP!

Last week I posted a thread about some very minor "scratches" and a small "hazy" spot on my hood where I'd (foolishly- it turned out!) wiped off some fresh (barely 10 minute old) bird crap with a dry kleenex.
Well, yesterday I bought some Mequiar's "Scratch-X" ($8.99 + tax) as advised by several folks and tried it out this morning, but it did almost NOTHING for those very minor scratches- and only reduced that "hazy" spot (looks a bit like when you leave a finger smudge on glass) by maybe 35% at best!
I also thought it very strange that on the tube it says" immediately re-apply some wax to the finish to restore shine"- but the shine looks EXACTLY the SAME on the 2 spots where I applied it...!
Did I do something wrong, or is this product just as much full of sh*t as those damned birds....?!
One upset Newbie..........

strange, the stuff works for me.

how bad are these scratches anyway? minor surface scratches to some are deeper, paint removing scratches to others.

the bottle tells you to re-apply wax because scratchX isn't a wax but a cleaner.

They're not bad at ALL- that's what kills me!
You can only see them when you look at an angle in the light, and the hood still feels as smooth as glass!
Of course I'd understand if they were "real" scratches- but they're so "fine" I can hardly believe this stuff isn't working.
Do you think it might help if I repeat the process 5 or 6 times rubbing really hard?

you never want to rub real hard. even orbital buffers are used applying light pressure. anything more and you run the risk of spider-webbing, etc. you can repeat the process but use light pressure and allow the product to dry and wipe down with a soft towel.

you're probably never going to get every scratch out of the paint, this is to remove as much as possible. i doubt there's a true product out there that can totally remove surface scratches in total with no one ever noticing when looked at at every single angle known to man.

Try 3M Imperial Hand Glaze part number 05990 or Mequiars Professional Show Car Glaze. I prefer the 3M.

the glazes are a good suggestion. If they don't work then you should take it to a detailer (or other skilled "finish" guy); the can, if you want them to, probably get rid of them with a very mild polish or polishing compound....but in doing so they will be removing some clearcoat from the surface. If done right it will likely be invisible (if the scratches are as minor as you say). If done wrong they could go through the clear and create a "clear burn" the will require a repaint.......

You could trade it in and get a lighter color car and not be burdened with every single imperfection being visible.....

I wouldn't worry about it especially if your car is black because it shows , its something you will have to live with. You could use color cure wax my turtle wax. It comes in all the assorted colors to match your particular car color.

One thing about going fast is your scratches will be greater.
