Default Stainless Works Headers

I dropped my wifes 06 mustang off at Stainless Works:
http://www.stainlessworks.net/cart/index.php

today for them to use for their prototype. We had been in discussion for a few months about using them car so they could come out with an exhaust line for the 4.0 cars. Got a chance to talk to them today when I dropped of the car to decide exactly what we wanted to do. The gentleman that runs that I talked to is Al. He said they really didn't see any purpose is building shorttubes due to the lack of any real gain. What we decided upon is going with a longtube setup. They are going to use the car to get everything set up and then market these. At this point what it will be is a set of longtube stainless headers and a matching midpipe with hi flow cats to match up with whatever type of exhaust you are running. My car has a gt take off dual exhaust so they are going to build a mid pipe with an H to mate up to it. I also sent my old single exhaust so they are also going to use it to make a midpipe to mate the lontube up to the single exhaust with a y. I have been waiting to see an exhaust manufacturer actually build a mid pipe for these cars. I had been originally figuring on shorties and wanting to see a midpipe to match up to them or stock manifolds. After talking he said he really didn't want to go the shorty route due to lack of gains. It sounds like they are going to market it as a combo but will know more when they are done. Probably be about a month. They are taking the car as it sits to baseline dyno it and then take it back when they are done. I had already had a baseline dyno but he wanted to be able to do it closer together to get more of an accurate figure. As I find out more I will let everyone know.

Also as we were talking we briefly touched on doing a off road h with no cats. I definately wanted cats in my pipe since i've heard they sound pretty bad without them on the 6's plus it is my wifes car. Just want to put a feeler out there to see how many folks would be interested in them building a midpipe with out cats. Let me know so i can feed them more info.

I'd really been wanting the MAC long tubes, but everyone complains about "fitment." So, then I've been looking at JBA shorties... but, like you pointed out, there isn't squat for real gains on our V6.

So... if this guy doesn't get cocky and jack the price way out of the universe, I'd be interested in buying a set of his long-tube headers. Please remember to post here or PM me with updates.

Thanks.

I really don't know where the pricing will on them at this point. I'm sure he will know more on that once they have them built and ready to sell. I do know that as far as quality and fitment goes all of the products i have seen have been top notch. When I dropped the car off today it was actually the first that I had talked to them in person. I was very impressed with them and can say that I feel very comfortable leaving my car in their hands. When I priced their longtubes in the past for my 02 I know they were pretty much priced around the same as kooks and jba. For instance the ceramic coated stainless jba shorties I had on my car were priced around $650. I believe their stainless longtubes were around $750. I know the macs are cheaper but i can speak from experience that it seems that you get what you pay for. I have mac catback on my car which I will say sounds great and due to that I would run their mufflers again, however the fitment of it really sucked out of the box. If the catback was t hat bad I can only imagine some of their headers fit like. But just like with everything else, everyone will have a different opinion based on their experiences with a particular product. I'm really looking forward to getting the car back finding out how it feels and sounds. I had already had the car base line dynoed but they are taking back to the same shop and having it baselined again just before they install the exhaust so that they can then have it dynoed afterwards and see the gains. They want to have the dynos run and close together as possible to try to true numbers for the gains. The car currently sits stock except for the gt take off exhaust. Once we get those numbers then I will throw on a c&l cai and tune and see what happens.

meh, definately not the 4.0 or 3.8, but a 4.6 could in a way be considered a modern version of a muscle car (more of a pony car, but very close to a muscle car). On the other hand the cobalt ss/sc is a front wheel drive, 4 cylinder, big winged economy performer. it is pretty much everything NOT muscle. cool car, NOT a muscle car.

Stainless works is a great company making excellent quality exhaust. they have worked closley with strope speed shop in the past to make some really nice exhaust setups for F-bodies and corvettes.
www.stropespeedshop.com from washington PA. that's where i get my dyno work done. they are firm backers of stainless works products as well as corsa exhaust

02PNYGT: How are they doing? Are they almost done? Are they going to market an entire system or just the headers... or what? Cost? I'd really like to get a new exhaust soon.

Thanks.

Default RE: Stainless Works Headers

Car has only been there a week as of yesterday. They said to figure about 4 weeks. They are making longtube headers and a mid pipe. There will be two different mid pipe designs if they do what we were talking about. They will be making an h pipe with hi flow cats that will mate the lt's up to a gt style dual exhaust. I alread had gt take off duals for them to match up to. So basically it wil be there lt's, midpipe and then any gt over axle pipe and mufflers will work with it. They also had me bring in my take off single exhaust. This way they can make up a y pipe so that the lt's can also be used with a factory style single exhaust. I have no idea what they are looking at as far as prices at this point. Once they are done with the car I will be sure to post up more info as I know it. If you go to there website, which i have the link in the first post, I guess you could look at the pricing of the gt set up to have some idea. I don't know if they will be priced about the same or not at this point.

Sounds interesting. If you are talking well over $700. for headers, I say good luck, I won't be buying any. I am, however, interested in your dyno gains while using them. I know that shorties aren't worth much on a NA car, always curious about long tubes though. If you could post before and after dyno gains, that would be great!
