DB: Noticed your a Newbie like me. I just recently got a computer and found this forum. I have read all the Saleen posts in the archive and found that everyone here LOVES their cars and LOVES to help one another. Why don't you discus your cars issues on this forum, iam SURE these guys can help. Sowaxman usually seams to say it best. My experience with Saleen and Ford has been nothing but outstanding! 3 cars and over 200,000 miles of FUN. I have found it's all about finding a good dealership with a GREAT service manager-find a Saleen/Mustang lover and your problems will get addressed. If you think your getting the runaround call Saleen and leave a message for Steve with your vin number for his people to research, he WILL return your call. I talked with him many years ago with a paint problem and we talked cars and racing for over a hour. Noticed a previous car of yours was a Beemer, i am quite sure your not going to get a personal call from the President of BMW in Germany like i did from Steve to solve my problem. Saleen owners are a tight bunch, we love our cars to death. My advice is discus your problems, find a good dealer/service dept. through this forum. Hope you don't think iam being tough on you through this post. Good Luck
mr db email me after wed 10th i am right in the middle of a buy back by saleen for my lemon 2006 #003 extreme, with to date 18 major problems and only 1500 miles if the buy back does not go my way by wednesday, i will fill these pages with volumns of what i know and what i have been through with this wonderful peice of machinerary
Saleen Extreme Owners, Thank you for the many e-mails that I am getting and I will talk with each 1 of you individually on e-mails. I wont get into specifics of what's going on in this FORUM.
elburrito99 You too, are seeing a pattern with Saleen, as we all read the MANY different problems with these Brand New cars.
slammer1 Thank you, I didnt take what you said as negative and I agree about this Saleen Mustang. I am not a FORD person, but when I saw these 2005-2006 Saleen Mustangs, I too had to get 1. I was so happy and told many of my friends about it & sent pictures thru e-mail. I wish I could re-take pictures of it & put it on e-mail version, so I can post them here. Unfortuantely, my car is a gargage dust collector. It wont start. The car is always dead. It was down at Saleen in Irvine Ca. for 2 weeks and guess what I am still having the same issue. The Steve you may have talked to works in the Warranty Dept alongside of Bill Vaughn. It's not Steve Saleen, believe me he has been left numerous messages from me.
SAR Hi, nothing against you, but if you work for Saleen Corp Inc.in Irvine,Ca., all I can do is to ask you to talk to Bill Vaughn when he gets back in & ask him about the 2006 #128 Extreme w/Scenic Roof car & you will get the full run down. I will not, go into it on here, it's being handled a different way now. Or maybe talk to Karl Mahl (Retail Brand Manager For The Western Region) or Tom Ryan(1 of your V.P.'s) it's a serious matter at this point.
sam the jeep man I hope you the best, but seriousily e-mail me, we need to talk. Are you in Calif ?
Other Saleen owners, those of you with the warranty problems, just know that as a car collector myself like many of you. Every time you have a warranty claim & have to go to the dealership or Saleen with getting it fixed that your VIN # & Saleen ID# is recorded in the data base. Therefore your car has a Bad history & nobody is going to pay top dollar for a problematic car. As I read some of you guys/gals are doing your own work on your cars You are Voiding your warranty. Please take a minute & think about how much you spent on this car & all this extra work you have to do on it.
Sorry & Thank All of you again for the e-mails & keep them coming, I will Not communicate on the Forums about this issue anymore. Power in the Hands of The Few ?

There is nothing on your extreme that Saleen could have installed that could cause battery drain, except for the gauges. I'll assume that they turn off when you turn the car off, and that is not the problem.
Quite a few regular Mustang GT's had this problem, there are TSB's related to it. The other possible battery drain problem is with the Shaker systems not cutting power to the amps when you allow the radio to turn off by opening the door. The bandaid solution is to manually power off the radio before you get out of the car. Hope this helps.
Here is more: "after doing a voltage test on every single fuse, there was a 1.4 miliamp draw on the radio and amp fuse, and also after the vehicle had been shut down after 40 min. the shaker 500 became activated and attempted to scan for CD's and both the technician and myself made certain that everything was turned off, during the 40 min. that the car was shut down. so what they did next was pull the shaker 500 out, recheck the same fuses a second time, and yet even with the shaker 500 pulled out, after another 40 min. the radio fuse was still drawing 1.4 miliamps again, so after not being able to figure out what else could be connected to that fuse...the service manager finally got a hold of a Ford engineer, and was told that the amp has to also be disconnected, otherwise there will still be current going through the radio fuse, even if its shut off, and although this did not make any sense.. it seemed that he was right, there was no current drawn after disconnecting the amp... It was then determined that it was the shaker 500 that was the cause, so they went ahead and installed a replacement shaker 500 C and needless to say, after nearly 5 months later...my car has sat for sometimes 3 weeks and haven't had any furthur battery issues."
Wowww Toby, You are the man with the plan. Here Saleen couldnt figure this out after having my car for 2 weeks. This is vital information that will be forwarded. Both Ford & Saleen are pointing fingers at each other. I did notice that Saleen added a bunch of different fuses to my fuse box with red wires all over the place. Which still didnt fix the problem. They need to HIRE you.

Interesting insight, polkthug. I personally know two Mustang owners who've had problems with electrical drain, and I've read plenty on this issue in posts by Saleen and stock Mustang owners alike.
Ultimately, though, who knows what db28 and samthejeepman are actually dealing with? Without you guys actually describing your problems, we are left to blind speculation.
And samthejeepman, if you are in fact in the midst of a negotiated buyback for your Extreme, as opposed to a full-fledged lemon law legal proceeding, we likely won't EVER hear about your 18 problems in 1,500 miles, since (if Saleen's attorneys are worth their weight in salt), you will be signing a strict confidentiality provision as part of any settlement you might reach with Saleen.
My point? I think some of these posts have generated a lot more heat than light. Let us know what you're dealing with, and we can tell you if we are encountering the same problems.
Just my $.02. Good luck in resolving your problems. I sincerely hope you are back on the road soon enjoying your E.

p.s. I'm about to head back east on business for 10 days. I'll let you know if my ride won't start up when I get back...

Polk is right - the battery drain issue is FORD related with the radio. Leave the radio on, store the car and the battery drains. Turn it off, store the car and you should be good. Worked for me. This has been discussed in here numerous times. So before you put out a list of issues and make Saleen out to be the bad guy, please to a THOROUGH search of Ford related TSB's on this sight and others. Chances are you will find the issue there. Battery drain, front suspension popping, gas tank filling, etc.......I know some of you have legitimate Saleen issues, but this is NOT the place to throw them under the bus - do that personally with them.
Now, I have seen some Extreme owners on here with an actual overloading problem that causes the main wire to burn up at the soleniod if I remember correctly Talk with Viper/Saleen and S281 E on that issue as they have experienced it and fixed it.
As for voiding your warranty by doing your own work - BS. I have personally installed my own replacement headrests, bypassed my rattling exhaust, removed my front an rear clips to deliver to the dealer to have them repainted, and pulled off my wheels to deliver to the dealer to have them balanced. I am DIY'er and do not believe in anybody touching my car if it is something I am physically capable of. Did this void my warranty - absolutely not. You need to find a GOOD PERFORMANCE minded dealer when you are dealing with these cars. Does one exist in EVERYONE's city, unfortunately not.
I feel for all of you that have troubles getting issues resolved. But don't discredit Ford or Saleen all together because there really are dealers out there that take care of these cars and satisfy some of us Saleen owners. I only wish you all lived near Indy because IMO Skillman Performance Ford in Greenwood is performance driven and they know how to satisfy. Remember me saying I removed my front & rear clips myself - the Body Shop Manager ACTUALLY showed me how to do it myself as he understood my apprehensions about letting others work on my car. Now thats pretty good service IMO
sowaxeman Thanks for all your input. I too am a DIY'er but NOT on a 2006 Brand NEW car. I restore classic cars back to original & get top dollar for them. Cars like this you really dont want to do modifications too because you loose the value. I bought this car to have as a turn key car. If/when I were to ever take it to Car Shows etc..I wanted to have an Exotic car that only the Hands of the Few would have.
As far as reading all the information on these Saleens. I have done that & even took that information to Galpin Ford & Saleen, only for them to either ignore or choose not to listen about the radio scenario. Therefore the car is not working again.
Which 2006 Saleen do you have ? a) 3valve - N/A b) Supercharged c) Extreme The reason I ask you this, is the Warranty is different on the Extreme it's a 12,000 mile or 12 months only. The 3-valve & S.C. cars have 36,000 mile or 3 years. Per Saleen, if, I even put a Battery Charger, battery trickler on it or jump start my Extreme I can Void the warranty. My Warranty says that a Saleen or Ford Authorized Trained mechanic is only to work on this car. So under warranty they will be the Only people to touch this car.
Keep in mind this car was bought on August 25th 2006 & to date I only have 1650 miles on it. I have not been like the rest of the Saleen owners to enjoy this car, because of the many problems already that I am experience'g.
Thanks Again for your Valuable Input.

I have always been happy to try and help any customer with an issue, I am not sure what happened at this end, however I will get the file and find out. I am also not sure why you were not told of the battery drain issue from your dealer, as this is a fairly standard issue with the GTs. And Ford has been working on it since the first builds of the 05s. Bill V is out on sick leave at the moment so I cannot talk to him, however I am meeting with Carlos later today and will get the file and any insight from him. You can always PM me with any questions Also unless you are dissassemlbing the engine, sc, or other MAJOR work you will not void your warranty BT
i had a dead battery issue too with my 2006 extreme saleen #100 .i went to galpin ford ca and replaced the battery and now its ok but the other problems i havent got any yet thank god if i do its gone be a stressful time again i ve had 1 buy backs from them on my 2004 .i hope this one turns out ok because i hate going back and forth with ford and saleen one blaming the other i went streight through bbb and fugeed both companys over but the person whoes is reliable to buy the car back no matter if its a saleen issue or ford is ford and then they will get saleen on there time bbb # 18009555100 dont waist ur time with the dealer or lemon law lawyer bbb is the ****ttttttttttttt
I have owned a number of cars new and used from $2500 to $80,000 and to be honest none of them were ever perfect. They are machines and especially new before they are broken in they seem to experience the most issues, and they are usually big deals because of my high expectations. I have been nothing but more then satisfied with Saleens service. All of my issues have been solved directly by them however my dealership has alot to be desired. As an owner I have to do my part to solve the problem whether that is multiple calls to Saleen to address it or taking it into the dealership if I can't do it on my own. I am a firm believer if I want something fixed I have to pursue it and ensure I get the results I want. I am a stickler when it comes to anyone touching my car so I prefer only Mx guys I know and trust. This forum has given me some of the most insightul information over the last year or so. I have been nothing but impressed with the professionalism on this forum, and I refuse to throw Saleen under bus here for a bad experience. I apologzie to all of you who feel you have been cheated on your service. Based on what I have experienced and the number of other satisfied owners on here, I think you have been either mishandled or you have you have gone about getting things corrected the wrong way. I am a firm believer that a Saleen is one of the best vehicles to own, and the 05- 07 Mustangs are best thing out there for the money and performance. The S281 SC is the best automobile I have ever owned I am as happy as ever with my purchase and investment. I only hope you all could feel the same. If you need convincing I will take for ride in my 2006 S281 SC!

I feel for you guys who have problems with Saleen. We can all understand that problems happen but when you have issues getting resolution it does suck.
For my part, after reading horror stories with quality control and warranty issues, I've become very disillusioned with Saleen and speaking as a buyer who was preparing to drop cash on a 2007 SCE, I have decided to give my money to the Ford/Roush partnership instead. On paper the Saleen has it for me, but this is the real world and I don't think I could stomach the sort of problems I've read about on these hallowed pages.
Even so, as I turn my research toward Roush, I find I'm unable to feel totally comfortable, concerns over Ford support on all of these 'oddball' cars seems to be somewhat hit-and-miss.
Gee, am I really going to have to buy an M3 ? Surely not
I love the blau mit weiss and I love Saleens, and neither is perfect. I have also had both wonderful and terrible experiences with dealers of both makes. Unfortunately, no modern and complex machines are immune from problems, including ocassionally vexing and/or serious ones. If you want to minimize potential service issues, buy a Lexus; if you want an unusual car that inspires lots of passion, joy and the ocassional frustration, buy the Saleen. Just my personal opinion. Good luck whatever you decide.
