Does anyone have a clue as to what SVT will do in 2005?  I've been looking for information but I can't find any.  Will there be a 2005 Mustang Cobra?  Anyone have any links with info on this topic?

Umm I will try and find the link,  but on like road and track Tv or some s**t the guys at SVT were talking about how they think the next SVT cobra would either use a 500 horsepower 5.0 or the same 5.4 500 horse used in the GT

Dang, I sure hope so! That will be nice to have that kind of power, although I doubt they will put 500 hp in the cobra from the factory.

I don't think SVT is going to come out with something that massive, especially right after the debut year of the 390 hp 4.6. I'm figuring they would run that setup for a few years, like all the previous marks in history. And anyways, doing that would take Cobra's off the road as daily drivers, and they would be mainly weekend cars, because people would treasure them more like a million dollar car. All mustangs are made to give the average joe a chance of running with the big dogs, such as vipers and Z06's. I don't think SVT is going to throw the Cobra out of the reach of most of it's long devoted fans who wouldn't own anything but a mustang. The mustang would be competing on levels with the viper and other exotics not only in performance, but with the healthy price tag they all carry as well. Just my opinion.

my guess is that after launching a new body mustang in 05 they are going to give us a real treat when the cobra comes along

The reason I'm asking is because I'm biting hard on getting an 03-04 Cobra...  My local dealer has 6  03 Cobras on his lot.  I have some money put aside that I could possibly dip into for a healthy down payment.  But if there will be an 05 Cobra maybe I should wait...  It will be a few months before I actually do anything anyway so I guess I'll wait and see...

Maybe someone could better answer this question:  What will the 05 Mustang GT engine be like?

im not sure anyone clearly knows Ford's intent...my suggestion:  take advantage of the year end deals coming up and get a cobra.  you wont be disappointed with it.

I totally agree with that. You won't be disappointed with the 03-04 cobra. And like you said, you won't be doing anything soon, so by the time you do decide to make a move, you will probably know all about the 2005 cobra.

The last think that I saw on the 05 enginge was a 5.0 modular engine.  As for the HP well, lets think about that for a minute.  03's & 04's are 390hp so I bet the 05 will be a little over 400 maybe.  I also saw on I believe it was Motor Trend TV when testing the 03 that they believe it has more then 390hp.  We all remember the hp issue back in 99 so to make sure that didn't happen again they gave it a 390hp rating.  I mean can anyone think of a 400+ hp car under $40,000.  Like 30SVTcobraa was saying the cobra is a daily driver and a top of the line sports car for the average working man.  You get to far over 400hp and you price of the car will jump sky high.  I can't see a stock 500hp cobra...... ever.  I mean the new Ford GT has what, 500-550 hp.  No way Ford is going to allow the Cobra to out do the Ford GT.

To MineralGreyGT02 I say go ahead and get Cobra now.  Why?  Ok the 05's will be ready by this time next year, late 2004.  You are lookin atleast another 10 months to a year before the Cobra comes out.  If you can wait that long then wait, but if not then do it now and go blow the doors off those imports .  I am waiting to see what kind of rebates and all they will be giving on them myself.

i doubt that ford is really going to change alot in the engines...5.0 modular crap i sure hope so. bring back those 5-0's. the cobra might just be the same set up. because why will they change their set up alot yea the body but why anythin else. the set up they have now works. we don't want to happen what happen to the camaro and trans am. that would suck imagine a world without the original muscle cars. it would be messed up freakin imports ruling the street. i think ford should stick with there regular plans and only do major changes if things get drastic. well thats just my opinion.

alright guys this is how it goes....... ford will be coming out with a newly designed stang late 2004 based on the 66 or 67 mustang i think they said. i heard from people and magazines that a cobra will not be released till 2005 (the 06' model)but that cobra will rival the Z06, no gimmiks.(think about it....w/ drag radials, upgraded pulley's, exhaust and intake in the 03 snake are spanking the Z06.) 5.0 are coming.......and this is how this goes

02-bullit    03-mach 1    04-Boss 302!!!!!!

yes car & driver said ford might and will be releasing a Boss w/ a 302....every year ford will possibly come out w/ a special edition car.

500 hp dont know about that, but i do know that to rival the vette it will have about 430 hp.... nice!!!!!!

as for as imports i only respect Supras and Rx-7's even though without alot of money they are pieces of crap as for imports running the street no way buddy not as long as there are people like me. Imports are made for muscle car drivers to practice for a real race against other muscle cars given them a good spankin or playing w/ them). Ford in my opinion rules the market right now so drastic stuff is not going to happen making more cars and money... now that will happen

if anyone has any questions post them and i'll get back to you asap.

Yeah i really hope they come out with a nice and affordable 2005 SVT Cobra. As much as i like the stang, i hate it when i see everyone and their mom in either a  v6 or GT. Every 1 out of 10 cars is a mustang here in san antonio, texas. And i know when the new "05 comes out, everyone will have one. I like to be different. And i will go the extra mile to get an '05 Cobra. But as of right now, im set on getting an '03 Cobra first!!

i heard the new cobra motor is supposed to be similar to ford austrailia's falcon. its a modular 4v 5.4 engine i believe. and the new gt shouldnt be bad either becasue its rumored to have a 3v 4.6 wit 300hp. the mustang for sure is on its way to the top. with the camaro and trans ams outta the way, ford and svt can look at a higher plateu. there is also a rumor that ford is going to make aftermarket parts a lot more expensive and unattainable to the average consumer. anyone know?
