I am looking for a new exhaust system for my mustang. I currently have stock exhaust on because before i had this car it was my dads and he didn't put any money in it. I have heard many different suggestions from flomaster, to Borla, etc...... I would like to know what exhaust system would be the best for my car. i am looking for horespower and torque gains over sound JR200337879.5959375

I also have a 99 GT that I'm looking for an exhaust system. I've been told a number of different kinds and I'm not sure what the difference is.
Flowmaster Cat-Back Exhaust System (Flowmaster Force II)
Dynomax Ultra-Flo & Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust System
BX Performance X Pipes or BX Performance AFT-CAT
Magnaflow Cat-Back
I just have no clue about any of these. Most people I've asked just tell me what they like without any reasoning behind it, so I was wondering if I could get some help here. I'd prefer a big increase in hp as well as a louder, bass-like sound.

I just got a flowmasters American Thunder exhaust system and it sound great, but only get this if you like hearing bass from those pipes all the time. Even at idle it's loud, but it turns heads everywhere I go.

Dynomax race bullets get really good reviews also, and supposedly flow really well. Might want to consider that. Only problem is they don't offer a cat-back with those mufflers, so if you want better tails than stock, you'll have to buy a set of tailpipes from somewhere.

I read a lot of the reviews on stang net and am now wondering what type of set backs would I run into if I bought the exhaust system piece by piece rather than a set from a specific manufacturer. For example, the bassani system got really high ratings and good reviews, but there are some other high ratings on just mufflers and the such. mustangforums37882.8414814815

Well most cat-backs and mid-pipes are made to bolt right up to stock hardware, so most should be interchangeable. If you want to buy just mufflers, all you'll have to do is cut the old mufflers off and weld or clamp the new mufflers into place, plus or minus any extra pipe you have to add or cut off, depending on the size of the mufflers. Most people like the look of chrome tailpipes though, so most people buy a cat-back, but you can buy just the chrome tails if you want to use different mufflers. Flowmaster sells just the tailpipes, and probably a few other companies do also. Whatever you get, make sure it's mandrel-bent tube so you have the best flow possible.

I just bought the bassani cat-back and an off road bassani x-pipe (not cats). So what I'm wondering now, is that cats that are already on the car... is there any sensors on them that I'll have to deal with? Plus the question came up as to whether or not it will void any warranty I had on the car.

You'll need MIL eliminators. Not that expensive
The warranty should be intact, the problem will be passing street inspection as you have to have cats to be street legal. (Unless you've got a friend who will hook you up)

Even if you don't have emissions testing, most places still inspect to see that you at least have cats. If you don't then you don't pass.
One way around that is to blow out the cats - take the exhaust off from the cats back, then get them hot and put a little cold water into just the cats and you can gut them. Then Voila, no more restriction!
