a 351w would easily do that for you on the cheap. A 302 would take a good bit more money, but would be much lighter.

Make sure you change out the spindles to 5 lug add beefer springs and steering that 4-lug front end won't hold up to the power of a v-8 I would go with a 289 get the crank custom ground add high compression pistons a good cam take the heads and have 194 160 valves installed port and polish the heads install screw in studs beef springs and roller rockers the power you will produce will be around 350 + hp and the weight will not be near the 351w and the power will really show

you can get a stroker kit at just about any performance parts place, like summit, jegs and there are even some on ebay

The 351 has a goofy intake that was lowered because of the increased deck height, (taller block) to clear the hood. If you getan after market intake that doesnt have this feature and a good set of heads, like RPM's or Trick Flow then you can make serious power. a 347 stroker looks like a 289 or 302, but packs a bigger punch and few can tell the difference. The cost will be about the same for either one. It all depends on what you can find and what your budget will allow.

Me if I had a 64, I would go for the 347. If it was for my 67 Cougar, I would find a 351W or drop in one of my 351C's. If it was for a 79-93 Fox, either the 351C or a 460!

Go for a 347. Its lighter and can make 400 horspower with no problem at all. check out DSS Racing if you want complete quality top of the line all forgedparts. Or go to summit or something. 347 Stroker is only like a 1000 bucks at DSS ! Great deal

I would also go with the 347 stroker. i believe it is the best for your buck. and it does pack a hell of a punch. and a good place to get a complete engine is badasscars.com they are in sonoma ca.

351w would still be cheaper, and you wanna spend the $$ then you can stroke that!

I hope some of these folks might still be "subscribers" to this thread,,,, when they get their email they will be like WTF!

:D:D:D

I had started looking at the different polls that have been posted, looking for another "Torque Vs. Horsepower" poll just to compare the answers from then to now. I didn't find another poll dealing with this, (there are only 8 pages of polls total!),but nonethelessI ended up on a nostalgia trip that had to finish with me bringing back some obscure thread from the past.... :D:D

Ok, I'll bite...I would port and polish my old heads. They are 69's after all. As for the origonal question, is there room to fit a 351 in a 65?...64 1/2? It is not only taller, it is also wider. It's not a lot of fun to change the plugs in my 69.

Ok,, sorry about the port and polish question.... I should have thought it through prior to posting! ;)

A 351 fit into the 66 fairly well I think, the plugs are a little tight but nowhere near as bad as a stock F-Body!

Against my better judgment we installed theheader gaskets that came with the headers....of course they started leaking pretty quick so we installed copper gaskets. When we did this my son and I each took a side and we were able to pull the plugs in about 5 min and put them back in about the same time withoutany problems.Getting the headersout andback intook amite longer though.... :D:D
