This thread is cracking me up.  Your transmission type is just an accessorie to your car which you either like as is or dislike and change, depending on your prefrence, opinions and or situation .  I think this maybe should have been posted as a poll not a thread.  But hey, don't miss the forest through the trees!

Whether you're young, old, crusing, racing, eating or not, driving autos, manuals or some kind of hybrid of the two, we're all doing it in a Mustang!  I mean, this is a legendary American muscle car!  So whatever you have, here's to all of you other crazy mustang fanatics out there that are so passionate about your rides!

Wife's Stang is automatic, mine is a 4 speed...  Matter of fact another way to put it is any car with a built up motor and high gearing is a stick (gotta be able to pop that clutch and leave a trail!)  the mellow cruising motors are all automatic...

If you have to pop the clutch how can the motor be that built up?  When I want to lay rubber, put it in first and punch it.... guarantee I lay some nice posi.

That's the way I see it. If I wanna cruiser (my planned future 63 Thunderbird project) it'll be an auto. Put her in drive and chillax!

For the sport/muscle car, it's gotta be a stick.

Ok - let me clarify. I like sticks best, always have always will... For a cruising machine I like an automatic so that I can sit back and enjoy the ride. Guess it's a getting old thing??... No need to "POP" the clutch as a 440 doesn't need that kind of help to break the hides loose but it's more fun...

As I told my son (who is the reason we are building this car), Soap Box Please:

Real Performance Cars Don't Have Automatics!!

Daiily driver? Think 2 hours of bumper-to-bumper with a beartrap clutch and a high revving engine. Gimme the auto, air, and good tunes.

Buying an old one? Autos cushion the whole drivetrain and protect against losts of high revving so the car is often in better shape. The performance drivers usually went for the stick so the stick cars a somewhat more likely to have been abused.

The above is my opinion. You are welcome to as much of it as you find useful.
