What tire dot legal best suits the weight of our ponies for autocross?
I'm looking very close at the Yokohama AVS ES100 for Autocross and daily driving. Yokohama also makes some specialty Autocross tires too.
My tuner recomends the BFG-KD, but those cost too much. The KDW is $100/tire less, and still a good performer, but I'm leaning towards Yokohama.
There is a big difference between having a DOT (barely) legal Autocross tire, and tires that are safe enough for everyday driving. Are you looking for an Autocross tire to do more that just legally get you to the event/practice?

Those look sweet!! I am going to do some research ....
I like the Hoosier, but I also learned that there have been issues .....prodominantly about incorrectly heat cycling them..... Also for autox is though because you don't really get "to optimal operating heat" as the runs are short.....

I just got off the phone with my Autocross buddy. He runs the Hankooks on his car. He says that while the sidewalls are "soft", he's never seen or heard of sidewall safety issues with that tire. However, he says correct tire pressure is critical (get a verry good pressure gauge). The two best things he likes about Hankooks is the price, and that they temperature-cycle very well.
He recommended the Hankooks especially for when you're first learning how to Autocross, just to save money while you're tearing up tires from bad driving.
He also likes the Yokohama racing tires very much (if you can afford them).
He said the BFG-KDWs don't temp cycle very well.

Falken Azenis are very good. My brother races his car (not a mustang) from road courses to autocross events and loves them. They wont last realy long on the street, maybe 3,000-5,000 miles if you baby them. They do have select sizes, depending on what size rims you run. Ill prob throw them on my stock rims when I start autocrossing in the spring. The stock 17s are pretty light rims.

Id love to have a set of tires for the road course. But I have summer tires, winter tires, and drag radials, thats enough tires for now, lol. Not to mention the stock tires it came with I sold, so thats 14 tires Ive had for me car and its a year old.
