This is off of Vishnu Performance's website. Their Stage One kit is only $2665, and they claim performance stats of:
0-60mph in 4.3 seconds (est.) Standing ¼ mile in 12.4 seconds (est.)
And they claim that you can do it in about 1-2 hours if you are a novice. Appears as if everything is pretty much plug and play with the kit (http://www.vishnutuning.com/bmw_1_v380.htm).
To me that's pretty impressive performance for the mod money. I have no idea how reliable any of these stats (or the car will be afterwards) but if its anything like what is being claimed, it's a good chance that BMW enthusiasts are going to go this route and will have a far faster car than most people putting $2600 into a GT will be. I don't know if they'll have hit a wall at this point though without more costly turbo upgrades to get even faster. But suffice to say, that a CAI + tune is not going to make your GT faster than this package.
But come on guys, this car costs a lot more than a GT, and most of us wouldn't be caught dead in a Bimmer anyhow (and I'm quite certain that the opposite is quite true, BMW owners probably wouldn't dare step foot in a Mustang). Most of us prefer a car that lets you know you still have a pulse after all.
That said, I do prefer the previous generation BMWs to the Bungled, uhh I mean Bangled ones by a wide margin. I love the current/previous M3. To me the epitome of a Germanic vehicle -- finely chiseled, and honed to perfection. The Mustang is the epitome of an American vehicle -- very dramatic, full of vigor and spunk. Sort of like the Camry is the epitome of a Japanese vehicle -- you know, one that looks like a melted down version of a real car. I kid, I kid. Sorta.
The base 3 series now looks like its clenching its ass. My soon to be sister in law has one, and it looks and feels like a car Honda would have made 5 years ago. It's pretty terrible. The 330s and the 335s are much nicer, but are still missing a stately presence the old cars had.
I love all sorts of vehicles and all sorts of ways of making power (I had an SRT-4 before the Stang, and a LS1 Vette before that!). I for one will salute any souped up 335i owner who is up for a run. But if they could wait until Friday, umm cause that's when my Saleen 475hp kit will be installed.
Good post and thank you for sharing.
I have a friend with the vishnu upgrades, the car is insane by the way.
Also, make sure to get some video of the Saleen kit please. That should be bad ass
Since you are not a mustang owner, I'll let you in on something. A tune on a mustang does not give 8 HP or dude. If you are familiar with Diablo sport, then you would know that the new edge GT"s got about 30-40 HP from a tune. These days, depending on the tune, you can get over 40 HP in a stang. You can also get about 2-30 HP at the crank for an axle-back, depending on which one you get. These days everyone likes numbers. I understand that numbers matter the most. Have you ever raced a BMW 335I in a 05+ Mustang GT? I have, and like I said, I beat it. Why? Good driver mod. From a dig, if you put someone in a GT that knows how to launch it, and is able to get peak tq at a really low RPM, which is more then a stock 335I, you will beat one. I have a good idea of how mustangs react to mods. I don't just go to dragtimes, or motortren for my answers, I own one fella! However nice the 335I is, let's be realistic, a mustang is a drag car. Did you know that a stock stang has a 13.4 1/4 miles, similar time with your 13.2, or was it 13.3 Z? That is fast. Add a good tune, and a cat-back, and you are in the high 12's. Put DOT Legal tires on, you will be around 12.4 12.5 Put true DR's on, you are low 12's. Combine all of those things with that driver that acheived a 13.4 in a stock stang. Keep in mind, when I raced a 335I, I had some pretty good weight reduction. So, I weighed a bit less. Weight to pwer ratio has a big factor in certain conditions. Also, we do not need FI to keep up with a 335I as you hinted at. The answer, which is pretty cheap, 4.10's. I know for about 7K, through a bud o'mine, I can get close to 500HP. I think that a bigger turbo or S/C, if they make one for the 335I, would cost a small fortune. IF you find out otherwise, feel free to share. What did you own before your Z?

That is amazing, The 4.6L mustang must be the first naturally aspirated car in the world that can gain 80 hp from tuning and a cat-back exhaust. I have never seen a Naturally aspirated car gain more than a turbo car from a tune. Im going to call the guiness book of world records to let them in on this information.
-Now ill get serious. Your a fanboy. You have no idea what your talking about. Go learn a few things so you dont seem like an idiot. I hope you know that even in mustang forums you have no one backing up your claim.
Please send me a dyno of your tune & cat back 795092384 horsepower increase and I will buy you a 335 as a reward for finding a world record increase.
Here, check this out. You do the math. These guys gained 15-20 RWHP, not crank. Stop with the name calling dude, keep in mind, you are in a MF, don't be a troll, and flame your bs. So, if they gained, 15-20 RWHP, what does that give them at the crank?
I truly hope you don't think I meant that with an exhaust and a good tune, you will gain 80 HP at the wheels, it is pretty possibly to gain that at the crank however. Exhaust on mustang can give between 20-30 HP at the crank, convert that down, no more then 5 RWHP, not much at the wheels, but a bit at the crank. Just FYI, I am 23, and I am a fanboy. I was thinking about going to a 350Z forum, and start talking to down the Z's about how they don't gain shi* and the SL500 gains hundreds of HP from an exhaust and a tune. For the record, you don't sign up at a MF and start talking down the mustang owners cars, because you have something on your mind. People will think of you as a troll. Which, I certainly do at this point. Maybe my numbers are a bit off. If so, kick me in my a** then. With a tune and an Exhaust, a mustang can gain about 50 Crank HP. Sorry for my error. How old are you, a 30+ year old guy thinking a sports car will make you young? Stop talking your bs bro..It is not a nice impression, and a nice way to make "friends."

Who the hell measures crank HP anyway.
As for the rest of your post. Appology accepted.
I dont feel like bickering with you. I will let this thread die now.
This is all that matters: Mustang GT Base Price:$24,995 VS BMW 335i Base Price:$38,900 $13.9k difference from the get go. Put $14k into a new GT and see what u get... U get a 335i in ur rear view mirror right quickly dissappearing while u here ur turbo boost!
I dont feel like bickering with you. I will let this thread die now.
Grabber has been here for only a little while but is pretty well liked and deserves a little more respect than you're giving him. He may have been a little off on his numbers, but he definitely knows quite a bit about 'Stangs. Next time just point out that his numbers might be a little off, no need to be aggressive about it
There are a lot of car enthusiasts on this particular part of this forum, and we all share a respect for each other and each others' cars. Nobody here gives new people here any problem unless they start calling out other members inappropriately. Hopefully you'll stick around and everyone will get to know you a little better

Shifty, did you have another other performance car before your Z? I honestly was going to get one, but, I decided to pass, and then was offered a really good deal through my X-plan company offer. Any pics as well of the Z?

Uh..you realize there is more involved in getting a good ET than HP increases right??
Also fwiw if you only gained 80rwhp from a turbo kit..shoot yourself in the face...it's pathetic!!
Just read this, LMAO, how could he say that, everyone who'd turbo'd there 4.0's have gotten easily over 100rwhp from a turbo and ur talking about turboing a car with almost 100 more hp than the 4.0! ROFL! Yeah, maybe u meant to say 80hp is what a Twin Turbonator makes:
How much more horsepower can I get? Designed to enhance fuel atomization, the Turbonator can produce increased horsepower. An emissions lab, licensed by the EPA conducted tests on vortex generators that produced results as high as 20 horsepower. Other independently conducted tests yielded results as high as 35 HP. Just keep this in mind. A Vortech Supercharger kit for a 2004 Mustang that produces 155 HP boost costs $5,139.95. The Price/Performance ratio is $5,139.95/155HP = $33.16/HP. It costs $33.16 for every one horsepower it produces. All the Turbonator has to give you to beat the Vortech supercharger in terms of it's price/performance ratio is 3 horsepower. So go get a twin turbonator now and eat up the competition and when someone asks u what ur running don't forget to tell them it's the silent twin turbonator!
I am just kidding and don't think the turbonator makes this hp!
I am fine with that. But, other's seem to think different. Since mods were brought into the thread. Yes it is a driver's race. But granted, a mustang does have a bigger advantage against the BMW, that was my point.

I can point out a couple. Off the show room floor comes with more torque then the 335I. 300 compared to 320. Depending on if you are racing the 335I sedan or coupe, there is a fair amount of a weight difference. Not to mention, that the 335I does not come with LSD, and the mustang does, that can make a good difference. I'd say from a dig, I'd give it to the stang with equal drivers. From a roll, not so sure. I'd say the stang, still because of the weight difference, and because at higher rpms, the mustang gets peak tq. Just looked at the 335I, and man, it is nice, but, I would be too scared to race it because it is so fragile looking. lol

who in the HELL gets 30-40HP from just a tune in a new edge GT, 07grabber? there's no way in hell. 8HP was the more accurate estimate. hell.. i only got 9RWHP from putting long tube headers on my car.
also, 20-30HP doesn't convert down to 5RWHP, unless you mean subtract 5RWHP. 5RWHP out of 30HP crank is like 80% drivetrain loss.
i HAVE seen S197 GTs get 25+RWHP from just an intake and tune, but never on a new edge.
